Today at Parliament, EDANZ were pleased to be present as Honourable Minister Matt Doocey launched the Refreshed Eating Issues and Eating Disorder Strategy.

This marks the first refreshed strategic approach in over 16 years – a long overdue update and an important step towards improving outcomes for many.

We’d like to acknowledge and thank everyone who has worked together to instigate this change. Shining a spotlight on eating disorders will help dispel myths and reduce stigma, ensuring people can access the help they need when they need it most.

We are also encouraged to see an additional $4 million committed to the sector – a welcome boost for those impacted by eating disorders and their whānau. 💜

💜 Parenting through an eating disorder isn't what any of us anticipated and it often defies the norms of traditional parenting. The path is filled with uncertainty, fear, and moments where we question our strength.

But amidst the challenges, one thing should always remain steadfast: our love.

This journey demands a different kind of parenting — a love that's patient, persistent, and profoundly compassionate. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. It's understanding that healing isn't linear, and that our presence and unwavering support can be the anchor our loved ones so desperately need 💜
