LAUGHTER YOGA ORIGINS:
In 1996 Dr Madan Kataria was researching for an article on the benefits of laughter. He discovered even as little as 10-20 minutes of laughter can have a profound impact on our body and mind. Impressed by the scientifically established benefits Dr Kataria set about a way for people to achieve unconditional laughter - that is a way for people to Laugh for no reason, in order to gain the many body and mind benefits a good laugh can bring. The name Laughter Yoga is derived from combining Yogic breathing (Pranayaama) with Laughter Exercises. Today, the Laughter Yoga clubs are a global phenomenon with over 6000 clubs in 60 countries, including 9 here in Auckland. Realising the tremendous power of laughter Laughter Clubs have brought the well-being benefits of laughter to the lives of many people, including those suffering from physical, mental and emotional upsets.
