It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Geoge Taua, of Te Kawerau Maki.

Sir Bob was honoured to be part of the farewell and Tangi representing our Club. As mentor and Kaumatua "Uncle George " George Taua was a most respected and deeply loved friend of the Karekare surf Club.

Bob was seated at the huge tangi as our club's senior elder and represented The Karekare Community.

George was part of our rebuilding programme, he advised us on our Pou Carvers and after much thought gave the building its Maori name Kaha Ropi.

It's a wrap for another great season at Karekare after a tumultuous Easter on the wild west coast with remants of Cyclone Tam and peppered by Thunderstorms and alerts on phones! Well done to the two patrols who battled the elements, and to all our guards who met the challenges of the season. Take a well deserved rest now and see you back on deck Labour weekend 2025!

We had a spectacular day on the beach yesterday with United North Piha Lifeguard Service junior surf joining us at Karekare SLSC for a joint carnival. Special thanks goes to Steve Hart for putting all the events together and all our instructors and lifeguards who helped make it happen. Also to the team at United who helped out on the day. Finally to the parents who made all the yummy snacks and for bringing your families along. Here are some great action shots from the day, special thanks to Harrison for taking these for us.
