Improving the Sky to be Peaceful vs Resting As the Sky That Is Peace:
"Q: As the ego and its unloving thoughts, emotions, and perceptions arise in awareness for me, it's not really about trying to get rid of it? And not even about changing myself?"
Dylan: "Rather than self-improvement and trying to get rid of an 'ego' or change oneself or circumstance in a 'future,' for me, it was more discerning the false from the True. Discerning between the egoโthe cloudsโand the true Self beyond the cloudsโthe sky.
Indeed, you are right. Inner inquiry or forgiveness is not about getting rid of anything. Since trying to get rid of the ego, which is an illusion, is to make it real. It is just a calm observation of the ego arising within awareness. Calm can also be synonymous with non-judgement.
One looks upon it all with non-judgement. Awarenessโthe Witness Selfโor per ACIM: the "decision-maker" or "Dreamer of the Dream" accepts all experiences, just as the sky accepts any cloud or thunderstorm within it.
Being able to look upon the ego without judgement, aware that it indeed is just an illusion or false appearance, the false is recognised as false. Why? As you are never the thinker of thoughts, never a separate self.
One looks upon what arises not to make it real and rid it, just to see its falsity and overlook it. Giving it no mind or paying it no heed, you don't experience the false effects of the ego. And that is still an 'as if': as if there is an ego to let go of in the first place.
In Reality, you were never broken. Only the illusory ego reflects the quality of being broken, and you are not the ego. This is about the remembrance of the unbroken, Whole Self that is forever Radiant beyond the ego thought system, the infinite sky beyond the temporal thunderstorms..." Dylan, One Silent Mind
