✨ Exciting Talk for the NZ Association of Positive Psychology ✨
Some of you may know that I serve on the Executive Committee of the New Zealand Association of Positive Psychology (NZAPP). I’m delighted to be sharing a short presentation at their upcoming event on Thursday, 16th April.

In my session, Mindfulness as a Pathway to Flourishing, I’ll explore how I integrate mindfulness and iRest®-informed practices with positive psychology to support wellbeing, resilience, and flourishing - particularly for people experiencing anxiety, overwhelm, or disconnection. I’ll share practical, evidence-informed strategies from real client work, including practices such as Inner Resource, heart-felt calling (sankalpa), and intention-setting, showing how mindfulness can translate positive psychology theory into tangible, lived experience.

Praise is a reminder not a condition.
I don’t think that we ever outgrow our love of praise. It is goodness for the soul and one of the key things I encourage my clients to integrate more of in their lives. I have a daily practice myself ✨
And.
Importantly.
Your worth, your safety and your identity do not depend on receiving praise.
You are innately whole and loveable. That is your birth right. You don’t need to prove that.
So the next time you receive a delicious gift of loving praise 💝 lean in. Drink it up. Allow it to remind you of your innate goodness. And practice reminding yourself regularly too 🥰
But know that you are not dependent on it. Your worth is unconditional. No one and nothing can give you that, or take it away.

A precious reminder: You are worthy of living a life that is positively flowing with goodness and abundance 😍 And you are worthy of being taken care of at the highest level 🤩 Most of us (I would actually say ALL of us!) need support with this - you are worthy of support!
My encouragement? Get yourself an amazing wellbeing coach and/or therapist! One who isn’t limited to analysing the intellect. One who specialises (and is well qualified in) integrating evidence based psychology with spirituality and meditation 🌀👩‍🎓💫

Our ego loves to appropriate every damn thing…thought, feeling, emotion, experience…all of it 🙄
Next time you are having a challenging feeling or emotion (be it loneliness, anger, anxiety, shame…) notice the meaning your ego has attached to it; notice if it quickly laps up that juicy emotion and affirms it as your identity. You may notice something like this…
“I am lonely and that means I am not loveable and there is something wrong with me and I need to fix this but I don’t know how and it feels overwhelming and so hard…”
OR
“I am angry and I need to do something with this anger and I need to do it right.now. And I cannot be with these big feelings they are just too much and I don’t feel safe and I if I don’t fix this it will not be okay and I will never be okay”
Ooof that’s big. Feel it in your body. Give yourself permission. Welcome your breath. Give yourself a big hug. Affirm that you are safe 💗💗
And try this…
“I feel lonely (or angry or whatever) and I am safe to feel this. It’s not the first time I’ve felt this and it won’t be the last time. And every human on this planet has, or will, experience some flavour of exactly what I’m feeling right now. I am safe to feel this with all its complexity and intensity. It is not my identity. I am whole, loveable and enough and nothing and no one can ever (ever, ever!!) take that away from me.”
Notice a shift? Take practices like this gently, with oodles of love and kindness. And always, always reach out for support when needed.

Hello :) my name is Mary-Rose and I am a Positive Psychologist (MSc), Yoga Teacher and Life Coach based in Brighton, UK.

I love combining the evidence-based practices of positive psychology with mindfulness and yogic wisdom to offer soulful coaching sessions and intuitive, embodied yoga classes and meditation.

I believe that within each of us resides an abundance of wisdom, freedom, joy and peace. However, sometimes we need support and guidance to come back to our Self and realise our true potential and our deepest desires.
