🙌 We are thrilled to celebrate our Director Bradley Shaw, who has achieved a major milestone being named the youngest ever National President of the Funeral Directors Association of New Zealand (FDANZ).

This is a significant honour that clearly reflects his dedication to innovation and compassionate service within the funeral industry. We are proud to have a leader who is committed to upholding high standards, not only here in Whakatāne but across the entire country.

Brad shared his perspective on this new role:
“I am honoured to announce my appointment as National President of the Funeral Directors Association of New Zealand. I look forward to leading this association with an approachable and contemporary view on what is a very traditional industry. Our industry is changing, and it’s important that the organisation representing the majority of funeral professionals nationwide is able to lead with professional standards and, most importantly, a humanised approach.”

Even with his national leadership responsibilities, Brad's passion for our local community remains central to his work. His involvement with local groups such as the Eastern Bay Community Foundation, Pou Whakaaro, and Lions demonstrates his deep commitment to giving back.

Please join us in congratulating Brad on this achievement! We are confident his leadership will continue to make a meaningful positive impact on both our industry and our community. 👏👏👏

Research shows 57% of New Zealanders feel uncomfortable talking about death—often avoiding it completely. Many, like Ewan, choose “no fuss” thinking it will spare their families.

But “no fuss” often overlooks the emotional needs of loved ones left behind. While practicality may feel kind, family members can be left without a place to cry together, share memories, or honour a life lived.

As one grieving son reflected:
“We had nowhere to cry together
No moment where people could share memories or acknowledge Dad’s impact. Six months later, we realised we needed something.”

A farewell isn’t just ceremony—it’s a gift of comfort and connection.
