Be Breast Aware (even in pregnancy)
It's Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Early detection and treatment can save lives. 🩷
Breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women in New Zealand. It affects more Māori than other groups. Regular mammograms can save lives by finding breast cancer early before it spreads.
The best thing you can do to protect yourself is to be breast aware from the age of 20. This means knowing how your breasts normally look and feel and regularly checking for any unusual changes.
Your breasts may feel heavy or tender before your period, so the best time to check is after your period finishes, once any discomfort has settled down.
Women aged between 45 and 69 years can get a free mammogram every 2 years. To learn more about breast cancer symptoms and more about mammograms, go to https://bit.ly/3MVaM8E
