Perennial bloom 💚
Harvesting nasturtium flowers that have formed a stunning perennial ground cover in our temperate orchard. Keeping the soil beneath alive with retained moisture as well as successfully outcompeting kikuyu, which suppresses tree growth.

“Knowledge is experience, everything else is just information”....At least that’s a quote 11 year old me wrote in my original herb note book 🤔 So I’ve taken that advise and began tinkering around with various herbal balms to learn and play.
This one is my favourite blend so far; Kawakawa, Comfrey and Cayenne Muscle Balm! ☀️
Kawakawa is beautiful as an anti inflammatory and skin care plant, comfrey with its deep muscle tissue repair and joint anti inflammatory combines well with cayeene’s ability to draw warmth, nutrition and increase circulation in tense and stiff muscles.
☀️
Life can sometimes wear you down... so as important as it is to eat well it’s also empowering to grow and make your own medicine to provide the care and support we need to sustain, support and replenish our vitality so we can keep giving back✌️

Foraging for Self Heal, a wild pasture/woodland w**d that has great medicinal value. Externally it’s astringent, demulcent quality makes it a great aid for healing wounds, burns and for drawing out infections. Stabilising tissue and protecting skin moisture.
Internally it’s commonly known to sooth ulcers, especially those in the throat or mouth.
Best picked when the flowers have not burst forth already but are still in bud.
Prunella vulgaris.

Stoked to come across this abundant patch of wild chickw**d this morning!
Such a humble yet potent medicinal herb. I’ll be placing these delicately in some organic olive oil to infuse for use in a skin care ointment. Chickw**d works a miracle for many skin irritations or aggravations. Internally (though have caution) it’s a beautiful blood cleanser, aid for our liver and kidneys to detoxify and also a great thyroid support. ☀️

Sunday’s are for walking around the garden making note of things that we want to get done, observe the seasons changes and the overall ecology of the place. When trees are in bud, dying back, shooting up, fruiting, being eaten, ill, what is working well together and what is not..... it’s beautiful to take the time to really appreciate how we can fit into an ecosystem as the big picture thinkers, the orchestrators! To use our minds and inginuity to have a postitive regenerative effect on this beautiful planet. Our handprint can be much bigger than our footprint if we start to appreciate we are not seperate from nature, we are nature.

Leaves of gold. Once the leaves turn yellow and begin to drop they are at their highest medicinal value. Great for cognitive function, memory and circulation. The active constituents are not easily released in water, so I’ll be brewing these as a tincture instead.

Tea Wakawaka

Piwakaka, You are the orchestrators of this wakawaka. This land that we cultivate and share with you, As we grow, grow, grow a forest of herbs, of medicine, of food. Thank you Piwakaka, For as you twirl about, curiously watching us from your perch, You are teaching us to be light with our feet, and see with our heart On this beautiful wakwaka you have helped us create. Wakawaka - 1. (noun) share, division, division of a harvesting area - a descent group's division of a harvesting area and may be on land, river or sea. This refers to land divisions for the extended families of the tribe. The garden is within a wakawaka.
