Our world continues to grow day by day, and yet, despite us being surrounded by people - it can still get lonely!

• Reinforce Existing Relationships:

Reaching out sounds easy on paper, but in reality, can be a really hard thing to do. Still, even just a text message to a friend or family member you know can go a long way in feeling connected with someone else.

• Interact with Strangers:

The world can seem like a big and scary place, but having small doses of friendly interactions with strangers around you can also make you feel connected with the world and make it seem less scary.

• Connect with your Community:

If you are part of a community, online or offline, try reaching out and bond over similarities.

• Implement Self-Care & Self-Love:

It's not always about reaching out, it can also be about reaching in. Working towards loving yourself and enjoying your own company can make those lonely moments feel less lonely.

• Form New Experiences:

Trying out new things is a great way to implement self-care and love, a safe way of interacting with strangers, a natural way of connecting with a community, and you can even bring an existing friend along to experience it together.

My go-to action for when I'm feeling lonely is to play my favorite online video game. This helps immensely in staying connected with people, even if I haven't met them in person.

Do you need to have this discussion with someone else, or yourself?

We are so busy with life that often times we forget to stop, slow down, and take a moment to ask ourselves difficult questions.

Questions that cause us to think, grow and adapt to our surroundings. Questions that cause us to learn from our mistakes.

Slow down, take a deep breath, and ask yourself: What's the discussion you need to have but haven't had so far?

The discussion I need to have with myself is how can I better manage my time? What are my priorities, and do they need to be changed? How can I go about changing them?

Today I had the wonderful opportunity to speak about Person Centred Therapy at a workshop hosted by to 11 amazing psychiatric students.

I am honoured to be able to shine more light on this therapeutic modality in Oman. I do believe that the core conditions of PCT can go a long way in making your clients/patients comfortable, whether you are a medical practitioner, a psychiatrist, or a counsellor.

Thank you Dr. Hassan for inviting me to be a part of your workshop. It was an amazing time, and it was also my very first ever workshop as a guest speaker!

The new year has come and gone, but it's still not too late to work on your New Years Resolution for 2022.

Most of us end up tapering off and giving up on our resolution at some point during the year, and we feel that because of this it's not even worth making a resolution to begin with.

I feel that even if you give up on your resolution 1 month into the new year, you've still tried and progressed, however little or much you have. Trying is most of the battle, and managing to do that for even a week, if not a month, is something to be proud about.

My New Years Resolution for 2022 is to work on improving myself; it could be on my health today, and it could be something else tomorrow, as long as I'm working on improving a part of myself. And no matter how long it ends up lasting before I may give up on this, I'll be proud of the fact that I tried.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a disorder in which people have recurring, unwanted thoughts, ideas or sensations (obsessions) that make them feel driven to do something repetitively (compulsions).

There must be both; obsessive thoughts followed by compulsive actions for it to classify as OCD.

It's important to note that the relief felt through the compulsive act is only temporary, hence creating a cycle that feeds itself.

Trauma Coping Strategies:

Spend time with people: Don't isolate yourself from others! Isolation is a natural response to trauma, but it is so important to be around people.

Mindfulness: Practice mindfulness to help with flashbacks and to ground yourself when needed.

Exercise: Endorphins can really help deal with the trauma and whatever else might be going on for you internally. Exercise can also be a great outlet for your negative emotions.

Journaling: Don't hold onto the trauma. Let it out safely, on paper, so you're not carrying so much on your shoulders.

Counselling: Seek out a professional to help you process your trauma and figure out how to continue living on.

Lifestyle Change: A lifestyle change can help reset your mentality due to the break away from your usual routine. If your usual routine triggers flashbacks, changing your routine can be very beneficial.

Always remember, you are not alone.
