Shipibo art isn’t painted… it’s sung into existence.

Paola learned this tradition at 9 years old —
from her mother, and her grandmother before her.
Each piece begins with the earth…
clay gathered from the fields,
natural dyes,
fabric prepared by hand.

But what you see is only part of it.
Because kene designs are not just drawn —
they are carried through song.
As the women paint, they sing…
guiding the patterns through memory, feeling, and tradition.
This is not just art.
This is identity.
This is lineage.

And every piece she creates is made with love —
honoring her family, and keeping their tradition alive.
Some knowledge isn’t written.
It’s remembered… and passed on.

In the Amazon, the river is more than a path — it’s where knowledge is passed on.
On this boat ride, Maestra Lucila harvests huito,
a traditional Amazonian fruit used for generations in Shipibo culture.

Huito is known for its many uses:
for natural dyes and traditional body art,
for strengthening the hair,
and as a plant medicine used for women’s health.
In the background, you hear an icaro sung by Lucila — sacred healing songs that carry the wisdom of the tradition.

This is where the story begins.
Part 1: Harvesting the huito.
In the next episodes, we’ll share how this fruit is prepared and transformed into dye, medicine, and art.

More to come…💚

Most people think ayahuasca begins with the cup.
For the Shipibo, it begins days before.
Before entering ceremony, the preparation
starts with the mind and the body.

Why?
Because when the body is full of stimulation,
the mind becomes restless and confused.
But when the body becomes light and clean,
the mind begins to quiet.
And only in that quiet space can someone truly listen,
receive, and understand the medicine.
At MaiNiti, this preparation is not a rule to control people.
It is a way to honor the ceremony and respect the spirit of the plant.
Because healing does not begin with ayahuasca.
It begins with the decision to change.

Firelight, music, and open hearts in the Amazon.
Each week at MaiNiti we gather for our cacao ceremony, sharing traditional Shipibo music from the Peruvian Amazon.
Cacao is served alongside bobinsana, a master plant known in Amazonian traditions for its gentle, heart-opening qualities.
Together we sit, listen, and share — stories, laughter, music, and moments of connection.
As the night unfolds, the circle often moves to the fire, where rhythm and movement bring everyone together in dance.

Another beautiful night in the heart of the forest

Not every sacred song in the Amazon is an icaro.

Sometimes, it is simply a song of gratitude.
At MaiNiti, Maestra Lucila often sings in Shipibo to welcome the people who arrive and to thank them for sharing this space.

In this moment, she explains that this song is not part of ceremony, but a way of expressing appreciation — for each guest who travels here, for the stories they carry, and for the exchange of knowledge that happens when people from different parts of the world meet in the forest.

What does gratitude sound like in your culture?💚

During her time at MaiNiti, Victoria gave herself the space to slow down, explore, and reconnect with who she truly is.

Sometimes the most powerful part of the journey is simply allowing yourself to be — without expectations, without pressure, just curiosity and openness.

Thank you, Victoria, for sharing your experience with us. 🤍

If you feel the call, applications for our upcoming retreats are open.

At MaiNiti, each ceremony is more than an experience — it’s a safe space to explore, feel, and reconnect with who you truly are.

In her journey here, Lela shares how she began rediscovering something many of us lose along the way: self-worth and trust in herself.

With the guidance of Maestra Lucila and the support of the family, the process becomes something deeply human — a space where you can soften, reflect, and begin to listen to your own inner voice again.

Thank you, Lela for trusting us with your story and allowing others to learn from your experience. 🤍

Lineage is not a story. It is responsibility.
In this video, Maestra Lucila sits beside her father, Leonardo, inside the maloca — the traditional ceremonial space of the Shipibo people of the Peruvian Amazon.
She is singing icaros, sacred healing songs used in plant medicine ceremonies. These are not performances. They are learned over years of discipline, guided by elders, and carried with deep commitment to the tradition.
The palo santo smoke you see is used to cleanse and prepare the space, just as it has been done for generations.
This is how ancestral knowledge survives. Not in books, but in practice. In voice. In presence. In the quiet transmission between father and daughter.
Deeply rooted. Deeply lived.
