Every year on World AIDS Day which is observed on 1st December — we are reminded that HIV/AIDS is still a global challenge.
This year’s global theme is “Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response.”
This theme draws attention to serious setbacks: reductions in global funding, disruptions in prevention and treatment services, and increasing barriers to care — all of which threaten to erode decades of progress.
Yet it also calls on all of us — communities, governments, health workers — to act with resilience, innovation and solidarity. It’s a call to rebuild and strengthen HIV responses so that no one is left behind.
HIV remains a public-health issue worldwide: many people are still affected, and new infections and HIV-related deaths continue.
Let’s use this year’s theme as a spark: join hands in awareness, education, compassion, testing and support — for those who live with HIV, and for those who are at risk.
You could take part locally, in your community here in Papua New Guinea, or virtually — talk about HIV, share knowledge, encourage testing, challenge stigma.
I invite you this World AIDS Day to stand up — raise your voice, share information, show solidarity.
If any community in East New Britain who wants us to give a health talk on HIV/AIDS, do not hesitate to contact us.
