Some of the beautiful faces we meet when we are out doing medevac missions from remote areas. The welcoming smile and curiosity shows how grateful and hopeful our rural people are... in some of the challenging terrain and environments where road access and services are limited, a helicopter lands to save one of their own. 🚁❣️

On Sunday morning we had a Medevac for a mother, who would have not survived without someone willing to bleed for her.

A big thank you to all those who volunteered to give blood for our Mama Medevac Program. You know who you are and we appreciate you! πŸ’πŸ’–

Additional Medevac Aircraft to serve remote areas

MAMA Foundation and Manolos Aviation Limited is proud to announce the latest addition to our aeromedical fleet, a MBB BK117 helicopter registered as P2-LAW.

Formerly operated by the German Police, the aircraft will now serve the remote communities of PNG. It proudly carries the title β€œDocta Boi” - an expression symbolising the presence of both a doctor and/or nurse(s) on board every medevac flight. This ensures that urgent medical actions can be performed in the air, while patients are transported to the nearest hospitals.

The helicopter was flown to Lae today to begin its operations after successfully meeting CASA PNG requirements.

Our medevac mission on 19th June took us all the way to Wau District of Morobe.

Our helicopters can only land at makeshift helipads or clearings. We had to land at Aiyeti Primary School, and wait for locals to carry a mother to us.

The heavily pregnant mother was assisted by a CHW who walked for 5hours to get to her. She was referred to Lae because of fetal distress.

We wish the mother well.

Today's mission took us all the way to a remote village in the mountains of Finschhafen.

A village health assistant (VHA) requested for the medevac of an 18yo mother who needed hospital management. At this moment there were no health officials available at the nearest Health Facility to assist the mother.

She gave birth to a healthy baby boy on Friday with the help of the VHA.

This morning's medevac mission took us all the way to a remote village in the mountains of Kabwum District of Morobe.

A mother with obstetric complications sadly lost her baby, and was experiencing retained placenta.

She was in need of urgent medical attention and was flown into Lae - a flight that only took less than an hour to get her to a hospital.

We wish her full recovery.
