To strengthen and advance this partnership, CPL MedLab & Supplies hosted a Continuing Medical Education (CME) event, where a team from ERBA Mannheim (Efficient Reliable Biomedical Analysis) delivered insightful presentations. CPL MedLab Biomed Enhances Technical Expertise in Immunoassay Analysis

CPL MedLab Biomed remains committed to advancing healthcare diagnostics by actively participating in specialized training programs. From March 24–28, 2025, CPL MedLab Biomed Application Specialist, Malin Malagun attended the Application Training on Roche Cobas e411 Immunoassay Analyser at the Roche Office in Sydney, Australia. This intensive training program was designed to equip application specialists with the necessary expertise to support hospitals and clinics in optimizing their diagnostic capabilities.

The Roche Cobas e411 Immunoassay Analyser plays a crucial role in Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM), particularly for kidney transplant patients, with Papua New Guinea’s first transplant scheduled for May 2025 at Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH). Participants received hands-on training in:

✅ Accurate Results & Efficiency – Software and hardware configuration, reagent setup, and workflow optimization.
✅ Sample Integrity & Quality Control – Ensuring precise processes from blood collection to sample preparation.

Collaborative Partnership: PMGH & CPL Medlab Strengthen Diagnostic Services

14th – 16th March 2025
Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) has successfully introduced coagulation testing through the Stago Compact Max 3 Coagulation Analyser, with application training conducted in collaboration with CPL Medlab. This partnership leveraged CPL Medlab’s Application Specialist expertise to equip PMGH laboratory staff with the skills to operate and maintain the analyser efficiently.

The training covered key aspects such as performance optimization, quality control, efficient operation, and routine maintenance, ensuring accurate and reliable diagnostic results. This initiative highlights CPL Medlab’s commitment to strengthening medical laboratory services in Papua New Guinea by providing technical support and capacity-building.

City Pharmacy Limited Supports OOH Foundation Inc.

Operation Open Heart Foundation Inc. (OOHF Inc.) has been at the forefront of cardiothoracic surgery in Papua New Guinea since 1993, especially in the area of closed and open heart surgery. This successful program has saved thousands of lives.

This year, the foundation is launching a lifestyle-related heart disease prevention campaign and sought support from City Pharmacy Limited (CPL). OOHF Inc. reached out to CPL to provide the necessary items for basic vital checks, blood pressure measurements, and BMI assessments as part of their heart health campaign.

Medical accessories worth a total value of more than PGK 900.00 was donated on Friday 21st February 2025 in a small presentation ceremony at the Port Moresby General Hospital's Cardiac Diagnostics Clinic. Present to receive the items was Ms. Jane Huka the Corporate Affairs Director for OOHF Inc.

Ms. Jane Huka expressed her heartfelt gratitude to CPL for coming on board to support them with much-needed items for their heart health campaign.

City Pharmacy MedLab Powers Surgical Advancements at Daru Hospital with APUS 2 Anaesthetic Machine

At City Pharmacy Medical Laboratory & Supplies (CP MedLab), we are committed to empowering better health with cutting-edge technology, and our latest collaboration with Daru Hospital is a testament to that mission. Our biomedical technicians successfully installed and conducted training on the APUS 2 Anaesthetic Machine, replacing the outdated Spacelab unit. This upgrade will reduce patient waiting times for surgeries and significantly enhance the hospital’s ability to deliver precise and reliable anaesthesia.

The APUS 2 Anaesthetic Machine comes with key improvements that make it more efficient and user-friendly:
*Upgraded Soda Lime canister for easier handling,
*Digital Flowmeter gauge for better visibility,
*Built-in flow sensor for more accurate readings,
*Colour display screen for enhanced usability.

Our team trained five hospital staff members to ensure they could confidently operate the machine. The training covered essential procedures such as:
*Automatic and manual circuit leak testing,
*Oxygen calibration at 21% and 100%,
*Backup power management to ensure functionality during power outages.

With this new machine, Daru Hospital can perform certain surgical procedures that previously required referrals to Port Moresby General Hospital. This means patients can receive better healthcare services closer to home.

The hospital’s anaesthetist team has praised the APUS 2 for its ease of use and intuitive design. They are excited to integrate it into their daily practice and will continue to provide feedback as they use it.

Looking forward, CP MedLab is working to standardize the APUS 2 across hospitals still using the outdated Spacelab units. Since the Spacelab model is no longer in production, upgrading to APUS 2 ensures hospitals have a reliable, modern solution for anaesthesia management.
