Say hello to some of Metoreia Urban Health Centre’s newest babies!

Congratulations to the first cohorts of new mamas who safely delivered their babies with the support of the dads and midwives.

The mums and newborns have returned home but will be back for their routine postnatal, childhood immunisation and health checkups, services offered by the centre to ensure a healthy future for mums and babies.

Kudos to the dedicated health centre staff who are always ready to improve care and patient outcomes.

Australia is supporting the PNG Government to deliver its long-term vision to provide high-quality health services to all Papua New Guineans.

Ms. Anthonia Sioa is the first mother to give birth to her first-born son at the Metoreia Health Centre. The young mother is from Hanuabada Village.

The administration and staff of the Metoreia Urban Health Centre is looking to continue the services and help all the mothers to deliver their baby safely.

The facility will open for 24 hours a day and 7 days a week going forward.

1) Target population:
Motu Koita villages and the surrounding communities.

2) Trained skilled health professionals (Midwifes/HEOs& Doctors -O&G Specialist doctor)
attending to mothers.

The team attends to normal deliveries only, otherwise, those mothers with previous bad obstetrics history or first-time mothers with high risk factors are identified during antenatal visits and referred to PMGH.

3) Operations 24hrs

4) Visitors must adhere to visiting hour.
Morning 6am to 7am
Lunch: 12MD to 1 pm
Afternoon: 6pm to 7pm

Metoreia Urban Health Centre is open!


Services currently available include:

General outpatient services (children and adult)
Pathology services
X-ray services
Maternal and child health services
Antenatal care.


For general outpatient needs, visit the Dr Ako Toua Wing. Operating hours:

Monday to Friday 8 am to 4 pm
Weekends and public holidays 8 am to 12 midday


Information about when additional services will open, including full maternal and child health services and dental services, will be shared soon.

The Motu Koita Assembly acknowledged the Australian government for fully funding the construction of Metoreia Urban Health Centre. The funds are made possible through Papua New Guinea and Australian Government partnerships. Metoreia Health Centre is now open for the public to have access to the services it provides.
