The name I want for the new NRL team is “Kumul Legion”
1. Cultural Significance
• “Kumul” The Bird of Paradise, PNG’s national symbol. Deep national pride, instantly recognisable to PNG fans.
• It’s already associated with PNG rugby league (e.g. PNG Kumuls, the national team), so the name carries heritage and continuity.
2. “Legion” Adds Global Appeal
• “Legion” evokes unity, discipline, and military strength — like a brotherhood of warriors.
• It’s not overused in sports names, making it distinct and original.
• Sounds modern, professional, and powerful.
3. Marketability
• Easy to pronounce globally.
• Strong branding potential (logos, jerseys, chants).
🗣️ Motto / Slogan
🔥 Primary Motto:
“One Spirit. One Nation. One Legion.”
This emphasises unity across PNG’s many tribes and regions under the banner of rugby league.
Alternate Short Slogans:
• “Fly as One.”
• “Strongim Yumi. Strongpla Kumul.” (Tok Pisin: “Let’s strengthen ourselves. The Kumul is strong.”)
📣 Fan Chant / War Cry
Chant:
“Who are we?”
➡️ “KUMUL!”
“What are we?”
➡️ “LEGION!”
“Wanpela graun, wanpela spirit!” (One land, one spirit!)
“FLY HIGH!”
Fans can repeat in stadiums — simple, call-and-response style, easy to remember, and rooted in Tok Pisin.
🧥 Jersey Concept
• Home Kit: Red base with black sleeves and gold Bird of Paradise across the chest.
• Away Kit: Black base with gold and red diagonal stripe (inspired by the national flag).
• Third/Heritage Kit: Traditional patterns from PNG tribes subtly printed in the background, honouring cultural diversity.
Sharim Tasol!
