MANAGERIAL ECONOMICS
Revised Edition
By Bernardo M. Villegas
The favorable response of college students and practicing executives after the third printing of BUSINESS Economics for Filipino Managers have prompted both Sinag-tala Publishers and the author – Dr Bernardo Villegas – to undertake the updating and re-evaluation of, and the inclusion of new concepts into this volume. The textbook Managerial Economics if thus the result of these revisions. Containing the basic economic concepts of the previous book, this new edition features as its main innovation the incorporation of new techniques and terminologies that have evolved in the decision-making process of business enterprises, particularly within the context of the Philippine economy and business practices. Especially noteworthy is a whole new chapter on the social responsibility of business.

UNEQUAL ALLIANCE, 1979–1986: The World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the Philippines.
By Robin Broad
The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have been among the primary influences on Third World development since the Second World War. Over the past decade, that influence has grown markedly as both institutions have been thrust into leading roles in managing the international debt crisis and in steering a group of developing countries into “structural adjustment” via export-oriented industrialization. No country commanded more of their attention over this period than the Philippines under the twenty-year rule of President Ferdinand Marcos.
Through interviews with dozens of Philippine representatives of government and business, Unequal alliance chronicles the Philippine experiment with “structural adjustment.” It explores the process by which the World Bank and the IMF trained technocrats, adapted existing government institutions, and created new ones to mold their version of development.

THE SOUL BOOK by
Francisco R. Demetrio, S.J., Gilda Cordero-Fernando and Fernando N. Zialcita
Roberto B. Feleo, Artist.
The Soul Book deals with the pre-Hispanic religion believed in a sky world, and earth world and an underworld each of which was composed of several layers. In this “condominium” lived gods and goddesses, the most powerful of whom could create worlds and people, fly, fall in love with mortals, fight without end. What was the early Filipinos’ concept of sin? What was their view of forgiveness? Of wealth and social prestige?

CHINESE IN THE PHILIPPINES
By Theresa Carino
This 100-page book was published by DLSU University Press. It was a product of the China Studies Program at De La Salle University, which Cariño founded and directed from 1983 to 1991.
The book provides an overview of the ethnic Chinese community in the Philippines during a period of significant transition.
It was published shortly after the 1975 mass naturalization of Chinese in the Philippines under President Ferdinand Marcos, which allowed roughly 90% of the alien Chinese population to obtain Filipino citizenship.
Themes: It explores the social and cultural dynamics of a community moving from being "aliens" to "hyphenated Filipinos" or Tsinoy.

In time for the commemoration of ANDRES BONIFACIO’s birth anniversary on Nov 30, we are putting this title on SALE. The autobiography of the “woman behind the man”…. GREGORIA DE JESUS.
JULIO NAKPIL AND THE PHILIPPINE REVOLUTION
With the autobiography of GREGORIA DE JESUS
Edited and translated by Encarnacion Alzona
Julio Nakpil y García was a Filipino musician, composer and a General during the Philippine Revolution against Spain. He was a member of the Katipunan, a secret society turned revolutionary government which was formed to overthrow the Spanish government in the Philippines.
A facsimile reproduction of Julio Nakpil’s APUNTES SOBRE LA REVOLUCION FILIPINA is here published for the first time together with an English translation. The translator has completed some of his quotations from Teodoro M. Kalaw’s LA REVOLUCION FILIPINA (Manila 1924) whenever in her opinion the fuller quotations would help the reader, who may not have at hand a copy of that work, in the appreciation of his comments.
The footnotes unless state otherwise, are by the translator.
The appendix consists of the genealogical table of the Nakpil family prepared by Julio Nakpil and the autobiography of Mrs. Gregoria de Jesus Nakpil in the original Tagalog and in English translation.

Collectible FIRST EDITION.
THE ASWANG SYNCRASY IN PHILILPPINE FOLKLORE;
with illustrative accounts in vernacular texts and translations
By Maximo D. Ramos.
Foreword by F. Landa Jocano
A 100 page expansion on the 6 classifications Dr. Maximo D. Ramos gave to the aswang in his 1965 Ph.D dissertation paper for the University of the Philippines – The Creatures of Philippine Lower Mythology. The Philippine Folklore Society paper boasts 87 “Illustrative Accounts in Vernacular Texts and Translations”. It really does have a wide array of stories – ranging from the popular fetus sucking manananggal, to people urinating fish sauce. The stories are mostly of Visayan origin, but travel from the tip of Luzon, to the base of Mindanao.

The Aswang Syncrasy is the single most important piece of literature for those wanting to understand the complexities of the aswang and its effects on Philippine society. It was a cornerstone for my research while making The Aswang Phenomenon Documentary. Since, I have been constantly confronted passively by people who are positive what an aswang is – based on their regional beliefs. If this paper was mandatory reading, Filipinos could see the vast intricacies, and unique qualities of all regions in the Philippines. Instead, there seems to be a competition on who holds the most horrifying aswang folk tales and which one is the most “genuine”. What Filipinos should focus on is the colorful mix of stories, backgrounds, ideas, and perspectives, that promote their unifying diversity.

Daddy’s Library

My father was a printer and publisher from 1963 (I wasn’t born yet at that time) until 2016 when he passed on. He accumulated books; most often more than one copy of a title in the years that he printed and published.

I eventually worked for him in the printing press; loving the scent of paper and ink.

It took me a while to decide to let go of the books that he had accumulated. But I figured, I would rather share it with people who will take care of them than keep them gathering dust on his library floor.

They are not just simply “books” to me.... they are part of my being. Every published title has a story to tell. Every printed book, I probably helped print myself.
