Hello, I’m Bernadette.
I’m a wife, a mom of two, and I work full-time in a local electric cooperative here in Aparri. Life’s usually a quiet rhythm of work, family, and doing what I can to help, in my own small ways.
Over the years, friends and nurses have reached out to me—asking if I had extra baby clothes, or if I could donate breast milk for newborns in need. I’ve always tried to say yes. I’ve sent breast milk for babies, bought baby items for moms with nothing, or simply asked around when someone needed help.
Recently, a nurse messaged again—this time sharing how many indigenous and low-income moms give birth with absolutely nothing. No baby clothes, no diapers, not even a lampin. That conversation stayed with me, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that something more had to be done.
That’s how Unang Yakap came to life.
There’s no formal initiative like this in my area—no one filling this quiet but urgent need. So I decided… maybe I could be that person. Maybe I could help give newborns a warmer welcome into the world, one simple kit at a time.
This page is a space where I’ll share updates, keep things transparent, and hopefully inspire others to join in this small but meaningful mission.
Thank you for being here. Thank you for caring.
This is me and these are the little hearts who inspire Unang yakap. Because every child deserves to be welcomed with love.
