Depression can develop into Dysthmia if there's no intervention.

Dysthymia (or Persistent Depressive Disorder) and major depression are both forms of depressive disorders, but they differ primarily in their duration and severity:

Dysthymia: Characterized by a chronic low mood lasting for at least two years in adults (one year in children and adolescents). The symptoms are less intense but persistent.

Major Depression: Involves more intense episodes of depression that typically last at least two weeks, though the episodes can be longer and recurrent over a person's lifetime.

What is Body Dysmorphic Disorder?

Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) is a mental health condition characterized by an obsessive preoccupation with perceived flaws in one's appearance, which are often minor or unnoticeable to others.

People with BDD may spend hours a day thinking about their perceived flaws, engaging in repetitive behaviors such as checking their appearance in mirrors or seeking reassurance from others.

According to the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition), symptoms of Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) include:

1. Preoccupation with one or more perceived defects or flaws in physical appearance that are not observable or appear slight to others.
2. Repetitive behaviors or mental acts in response to appearance concerns (e.g., mirror checking, excessive grooming, seeking reassurance).
3. Significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning due to appearance concerns.
4. The preoccupation is not better explained by concerns with body fat or weight in an individual whose symptoms meet criteria for an eating disorder.
5. The appearance preoccupation is not better accounted for by another mental disorder (e.g., dissatisfaction with body shape and size in anorexia nervosa).

These symptoms must be present for a significant amount of time and cause clinically significant distress or impairment in functioning to meet the criteria.

If you know someone experiencing the above symptoms, please share this post or encourage the person to talk to a mental health professional.
