After enduring six cycles of chemotherapy and twenty sessions of radiotherapy, Dos took a much-needed two-month break from any medications. This period allowed time for rest, recovery, and reflection before the next important step in the treatment process: the PET scan.
The PET scan, conducted after the two-month hiatus, revealed a concerning result - there is still a lump measuring 5.1 x 10.6 x10,3 cm in size. This news was unexpected and, understandably, unsettling. The medical team evaluated the situation and immediately provided the best course of action โ combination of Oral Chemo and Immunotherapy.
Dos started the oral chemo (Venetoclax and Zanubrutinib) and Pembrolizumab for Immunotherapy. While the lump's presence is disheartening, the family remain hopeful and focused on the next steps. However, as they thought that Dos was just experiencing the side effects of the chemo medications โ there was a complication, the lump was obstructing the bile duct causing her jaundice and vomiting. Though this was immediately addressed by a medical procedure (PTBD), her symptoms persisted.
After series of tests, the results revealed a progression in both the number and size of lumps in Dos' abdomen. The doctors concluded that the current medications are no longer effective. As a result, they initially recommended palliative care.
Although this is a challenging moment, we remain optimistic and determined to continue exploring all avenues for treatment. Dosโ strength and the support from family, friends, and healthcare providers continue to provide hope in the face of adversity. Further tests and evaluations will be conducted to determine the next steps in this ongoing battle against cancer.
The Borja-Grageda family would like to sincerely express their deep gratitude for your support of Dos during this challenging time. Your kindness, compassion, and encouragement have meant the world to them, especially as they navigate through the emotional and physical toll of Dos' condition.
Whether through thoughtful gestures, words of comfort, or simply being there when needed most, your presence has provided them with much-needed strength and solace. Your continuous support has not only eased the burden they carry but has also reminded them that they are not alone in this journey.
In the spirit of Christmas, the family humbly ask for continued prayers for Dos. As medicine can only go so far, the family trusts that God has the final say. Your prayers and positive thoughts mean more than words can express.
Thank you once again for being a source of light and strength during this time.
