OSMOPHOBIA - Fear of odor

Oil based perfumes are preferred by those who want a scent that does not need any re-application. It is also preferred by those who have dry skin as it can be quite moisturizing upon application and it stays on the skin longer than your hydro-alcoholic based perfume. While hydro-alcoholic perfumes have water and oil as their carriers, oil based perfumes have jojoba, coconut oil or sweet almond oils as their base. Oil based perfumes are known as “skin scents” as it depends on the body temperature. These scents are close to the user’s body and does not leave a trail of scent. There are times when only the user herself can be the only one who can smell the perfume. What’s the downside to this fragrance? It can be monotonous at times as it does not have a top note, heart or a base note. The main difference to be noted between the two fragrances is the container itself. While hydro-alcoholic perfumes can be found in various sizes, oil based perfumes can only be found in small bottles. Hydro-alcoholic perfumes can be sprayed while oil based perfumes can only be rolled on and dabbed. If you do not have time to reapply and you want a scent that does not dry your skin, go for oil based.
