SPOTTED: MELANOMA

69 year old female presents with a flat, black-colored, irregularly shaped, smooth lesion on her foot which she noted to be changing over a few months. A biopsy confirmed it was a melanoma, a serious type of skin cancer.

The great news is that her CT scans were clear showing no signs of cancer spread or metastases. She successfully had surgery (a wide excision of the melanoma with inguinal node dissection and skin grafting) to remove it completely.

This is a crucial reminder for everyone! Your skin can tell you something. Keep an eye on your moles and spots.

Pay attention to these warning signs (think ABCDE):

🔁Asymmetry: The two halves don't match.

🧩Border: The edges are irregular, ragged, or blurry.

🎨Color: It has different shades (brown, black, red, white, blue).

📏Diameter: It's larger than the size of a pencil eraser (6mm).

📈 Evolving: It's changing in size, shape, or color, or is itchy/bleeding.

Early detection and prevention saves lives. See a doctor (preferably a dermatologist or oncologist) ASAP if you see any of these skin changes.

Higit pa sa paggamot ng cancer ang ginagampanan ng mga medical oncologist. Simula sa tamang diagnosis, pagsubok sa therapy, hanggang sa survivorship care—kasama ninyo kami sa bawat yugto ng laban kontra kanser.

Bukod dito, ang medical oncologist ay kadalasan bahagi ng multidisciplinary team na binubuo ng iba't ibang espesyalista tulad ng surgical oncologist, radiation oncologist, at pathologist upang makamit ang komprehensibo at pinakaepektibong plano ng paggamot para sa bawat pasyente.

Elevated PSA is not specific to cancer. Maaring itong infection, trauma, enlarged prostate, or inflammation.

Pero ginagamit na starting point ang PSA test para malaman sino ang may higher risk for prostate cancer. PSA test combined with digital re**al exam, family history, and symptoms ang mga tinitingnan kung kailangan ng biopsy para sa cancer cells.

Early detection through PSA screening really saves lives.
