The West Visayas State University Calinog Campus Medical-Dental Clinic, in cooperation with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Office, conducted a 2-Day Activity focused on Orientation and Lectures covering Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Principles & Drills, Basic First Aid, and Basic Life Support. This joint initiative took place at WVSU Calinog Soriano Celo Pavilion on February 28 and 29, 2024.
The resource persons for this event included Mr. RG Lazona, Administrative Officer II, who discussed the topic of Disaster Risk Reduction; Ms. Lilian S. Simbran, Admin. Aide I, who lectured on Basic Life Support; Mr. Jan P. Caspillo, EMT, Operation and Warning In-charge, covering Basic First Aid application and Bandaging; and Mr. Gilbert Joey Gonzaludo, EMT, Operation Section Chief, discussing the Five (5) Emergency Principles and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation.
Day 2 comprised actual demonstrations and Simulation Exercises. Throughout the duration of this 2-day activity, the power of knowledge, collaboration, and preparedness in fostering a safer environment was observed. One of the most inspiring aspects of the program was witnessing students learning how to deal with emergency situations. Possessing the knowledge to provide emergency assistance could make a life-saving difference. Students learned essential CPR techniques, bandaging, basic first aid applications, and hands-on training to ensure that all students were well-equipped to act confidently in critical situations.
