PYDO-SIRAK visited Majacob IS, Tizon NHS, Oeste NHS, and Tarangnan NHS to deliver engaging orientations and activities focused on mental wellness and self-care techniques reaching over 2,700 secondary school students in the district. The students also received Purple Desk kits as a symbol of their commitment to a mentally healthy Samarnon youth by 2030.

The Municipality of Tarangnan in collaboration with the Provincial Government of Samar thru the Samar Provincial Youth Development Office - SIRAK Kabataan conducted the Purple Desk Program Orientation in the Tarangnan District Secondary Schools. The activity also included the distribution of over 2,700 mental kits to all senior high and junior high school students.

Ms. Tennessee Abaigar led Module 1 (Self) with the goal of equipping the students with essential self-help skills. These skills are intended to be used not only for their own personal development but also to enable them to act as resources and support systems for their peers and classmates. The orientation also included the brief introduction of the Sirak Kabataan concepts, strategies and flagship programs such as the Aklatang Tambayan ng Kabataan (ATK), and YES Awards.

We extend our gratitude to our Municipal Mayor Hon. Danilo V. Tan for supporting this initiative, to the PYDO-Sirak Kabataan for accepting our invitation to conduct this activity, to the District Supervisor, Sir Albert U. Castro, School Heads, Mental Health Coordinators, Teachers and the high school students of Tarangnan District for their warm reception, to RHU-Tarangnan for conducting the Rapid HEEADSSS Assessment prior to the orientation, and to the staff of the Tarangnan M D R R M O, MSWD and Mayor's Office for their assistance in making this activity a success.

On September 26, 2024, the Samar Provincial Youth Development Office-SIRAK Kabataan was invited to Mualbual National High School in Zumarraga, Samar to conduct an a Purple Desk: Module 1 (Self) Training Workshop. This public health innovation is designed to create safe spaces for youth facing mental health challenges, and was introduced to student leaders, equipping them with essential self-help skills they can personally practice and impart to their peers and schoolmates.

The Purple Desk , a community-based mental health and psychosocial support initiative by the Province of Samar, is also envisioned as a support system for young people in crisis. As part of the training-workshop, PYDO-SIRAK turned over a Purple Desk set (table and chair) to the school, symbolizing a strong partnership and shared commitment to promote mental wellness and stop the mental health stigma.

Special appreciation goes to the School Head, Sir Eric Basilio Costo, Mental Health Coordinator Ms. Aleli Bermejo, and the entire Mualbual NHS community for their invitation and warm reception.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the Provincial Government of Samar headed by our children and adolescent health champion, Governor Ann Tan thru the Samar Provincial Youth Development Office - SIRAK Kabataan in making the distribution of Purple Desk Kits to 300 junior high school and senior high school learners a reality.

This initiative was realized through the strong partnership and support of the Department of Social Welfare and Development - DSWD (MARAMING SALAMAT po, Secretary REX Gatchalian!), DepEd Philippines , Department of Health and was part of the TrucKabataan Adolescent Health and Wellness Caravan, in collaboration with KOICA, UNICEF, UNFPA, WHO, Department of Health, Y-PEER Pilipinas, Youth volunteers/movers from the Waray-Waray Youth Advocates and SIRAK Kabataan movers, and the City Government of Catbalogan.

Each Purple Desk Kit includes a shirt, a tote bag, and a SIRAK-Purple Desk notebook, which will serve as a personal journal for our learners. This initiative highlights our commitment to not only supporting the physical well-being of our youth but also emphasizing the critical importance of mental health. By providing these resources, we aim to equip our young people with the tools they need to thrive both emotionally and mentally.

This endeavor underscores our shared goals and the power of collective action in advancing the health and future of the adolescents in Samar. Together, we are committed to fostering a brighter and healthier future for our youth! ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿซ

Yesterday, we kicked off the Adolescent Health Medical Mission using the TrucKABATAAN, our Adolescent Friendly Mobile Health Facility! ๐ŸšŒ 270 students of Silanga National High School got access to FREE medical and dental checkups, lab tests, x-rays, family planning and mental health consultations and more! ๐Ÿ’ช

Big thanks to our doctors, nurses, barangay health workers, school health staff, social workers, and youth volunteers! ๐Ÿ‘ Parents were also present to support their teens. ๐Ÿ’–

We're using digital data management for faster service, ensuring everyone gets the care they need. ๐Ÿ’ป The Province of Samar has also stocked up on essential meds and supplements to keep our youth healthy! ๐Ÿ’Š
