Emergency WASH Response Update – Agosto 25, 2025

Patuloy ang Philippine Red Cross – Western Samar Chapter, katuwang ang National Headquarters, sa kanilang misyon na tugunan ang kakulangan ng tubig sa Lungsod ng Catbalogan. Noong Agosto 25, 2025, nagsagawa ng pamamahagi ng malinis at ligtas na tubig sa mga komunidad ng Barangay Bunuanan, Barangay Socorro, at Purok 6, Barangay Maulong, sa pakikipag-ugnayan sa Catbalogan City Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Office.

Magpapatuloy ang serbisyo ng Philippine Red Cross hangga’t hindi pa nakaka-recover ang mga apektado ng krisis.

Sama-sama tayong nananatiling tapat sa aming layunin na maghatid ng serbisyong pangkaligtasan sa pamamagitan ng ligtas na tubig at promosyon ng kalinisan.

The Philippine Red Cross continues its Emergency WASH Response in Catbalogan City to help address water scarcity brought about by the drought. 𝑨𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒐𝒅𝒂𝒚, 𝒂 𝒕𝒐𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝒐𝒇 𝟓𝟖,𝟐𝟎𝟎 𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒔𝒂𝒇𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒄𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒏 𝒘𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒅𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒅, 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝟒,𝟎𝟑𝟗 𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒅𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝟏,𝟑𝟑𝟔 𝒇𝒂𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒔.

Alongside water distribution, 𝟕𝟗 𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒅𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒔 𝒕𝒐𝒐𝒌 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒊𝒏 𝒉𝒚𝒈𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒆 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒔 to strengthen health and sanitation practices. With 20 barangays identified as priority intervention areas, including 𝟒 𝒃𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒂𝒍𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒚 𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒆𝒅 𝒃𝒚 𝑷𝑹𝑪 where 𝒕𝒘𝒐 𝒘𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒃𝒍𝒂𝒅𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒅, these operations were made possible through the dedication of 16 mobilized volunteers and 3 WASH Technicians deployed by the National Headquarters, and in coordination with Catbalogan City Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Office.

Ha Purok 6, Barangay Maulong ngan Barangay Bunuanan, gindumara an distribusyon han tubig ngan hygiene promotion nga nakabulig ha mga pamilya nga naapektuhan han kakulang han tubig.

On August 16, 2025, at Purok 6, Barangay Maulong, Catbalogan, the Philippine Red Cross Western Samar Chapter and Philippine Red Cross Albay-Legazpi City Chapter "Official" conducted a Handwashing Promotion Activity as part of our Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) efforts. A total of 21 participants were reached — 17 males and 4 females — who actively joined in learning the importance of proper hand hygiene in preventing diseases and keeping families safe.

We sincerely thank the Barangay Officials and Purok Officials for their active support in making this initiative possible for the community.

On August 15, 2025, the Philippine Red Cross Western Samar Chapter and the Philippine Red Cross Albay-Legazpi City Chapter "Official", in coordination with the Catbalogan City Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Office, conducted school assessments at Jose P. Casiño Sr. Memorial Elementary School, Catbalogan IV Central Elementary School, Catbalogan National Comprehensive High School, Samar State University Mercedes Campus, and Guinsorongan Elementary School.

These assessments aim to prepare the schools for the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) operation, ensuring that facilities are ready to support improved hygiene and safe water access for students and staff.

Today, August 13, 2025, the Philippine Red Cross Western Samar Chapter and Philippine Red Cross Albay-Legazpi City Chapter "Official", in partnership with the Catbalogan City Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Office, distributed 12,000 liters of clean water to the residents of Barangay Mercedes, serving 253 families.

This initiative is part of our ongoing Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) efforts to ensure safe and accessible water for household use in communities facing limited water supply.
