Q: What is HRIG/ERIG?

A: HRIG (Human Rabies Immunoglobulin) and ERIG (Equine Rabies Immunoglobulin) are a passive immunization against rabies by supplying the body with antibodies to the rabies virus. It administered to unvaccinated persons along with anti-rabies vaccine to provide immediate but temporary protection until the body can produce antibodies of its own induced by the human anti-rabies vaccine.

This vaccine is given to all patients under Category 3.
