Outreach ug Diet Supplementation Program para sa mga Batang Grabe ka Underweight

Ang Outreach ug Diet Supplementation Program para sa mga Batang Grabe ka Underweight usa ka konkretong kalihokan nga nahiuyon sa Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2023โ€“2028, ilabi na sa estratehiya sa nutrition-specific ug nutrition-sensitive interventions, pagpalig-on sa first 1,000 days, ug sa behavior change pinaagi sa family- ug community-based approachesโ€”mga importante usab nga pamantayan alang sa Green Banner Award.

Ang mga lektyur ug teknikal nga diskusyon gipangulohan ni Assistant City Nutritionist Joan Ganub, RND, uban ni City Nutrition Program Coordinator Mr. Rey delos Santos, nga naghatag og ebidensiya-based nga giya ug programmatic direction nga nahiuyon sa PPAN 2023โ€“2028 ug sa lokal nga Nutrition Action Plan sa siyudad.

Kini nga kalihokan nahimo pinaagi sa lig-on nga suporta sa City Nutrition Council, nga gipangulohan sa atong hinigugma nga Mayor Jane C. Yap, uban sa pagpanguna ug giya ni Dr. Jeia N. Pondoc, City Nutrition Action Officer. Ang ilang padayon nga paningkamot nagpakita sa kusog nga political commitment, multi-sectoral collaboration, ug accountable nutrition governance, nga mga pundasyon sa pag-angkon ug pagpadayon sa Green Banner Award ug sa pagtukod og mas himsog, mas lig-on, ug mas nutrisyonado nga Tagbilaran City.

The Tagbilaran City Primary Care Facility joyfully celebrated the spirit of Christmas with daycare students and mothers of Barangay Manga, Tagbilaran City, through a fun-filled and meaningful community gathering marked by laughter, games, and exciting prizes.

The activity was formally opened by the TCPCF Head, Dr. Jeia N. Pondoc, who emphasized the vital role of education, early childhood development, and parental guidance in shaping the future of Tagbilaran City. Her message highlighted that investing in children today is an investment in a healthier, more resilient city tomorrow.

Adding color and excitement to the celebration, the event was graced and entertained by the ever-lovable Jollibee mascot, bringing smiles and unforgettable moments to the children and their families.

Above all the games and prizes, the celebration reminded everyone of the true essence of Christmas โ€” the children, whose joy, innocence, and hope light the way for a brighter future.

The DOST-FNRI emphasizes that these findings reflect the growing impact of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the Philippines. This is largely driven by risk factors such as elevated blood pressure, high blood sugar, abnormal lipid (fat) levels, and unhealthy lifestyle behaviors like smoking, alcohol use, physical inactivity, and poor sleep.

In light of these results, the DOST-FNRI recommends promoting heart-healthy lifestyles, including a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables, regular physical activity, and the cessation of smoking and excessive alcohol intake.

Specifically, the food manufacturing sector and food establishments, including office and school canteens, should be monitored as to the nutritional content of their products and the food they serve, like fat, cholesterol, sodium, preservatives, artificial ingredients, carcinogens, and other harmful substances like heavy metals and microplastics.

Moreover, these findings are crucial in guiding public health strategies and strict enforcement of policies aimed at preventing lifestyle-related diseases. They also serve as a valuable resource for improving health and nutrition services, particularly for this age group who manifest several nutrition- and lifestyle-related diseases, especially at the community and grassroots levels, where early interventions and health education can make a significant difference.
