📊 NGH HARRISON'S CLUB RECAP: APPROACH TO ANEMIA MASTERED! 📊
What an incredible session at last Friday's Harrison's Club! A huge thank you to our doctors who participated in our deep dive into the systematic approach to anemia.
Kay Take Aways from our session:
* Evaluation of anemia requires a detailed history, comprehensive physical examination, and careful interpretation of the complete blood count (CBC), along with targeted diagnostic tests to identify its underlying cause.
* A reticulocyte count is essential for the initial classification of anemia, as it helps differentiate between decreased red blood cell production and increased destruction or loss.
* Anemia is functionally classified into three major categories: marrow production defects (hypoproliferation), red cell maturation defects (ineffective erythropoiesis) and decreased red cell survival (blood loss/hemolysis).
Special thanks to our esteemed hematologist, Dr. Victor Catambing for facilitating this discussion.
Next week's topic: "Approach to Azotemia" – Friday, 2:00 PM, same location.
