๐Ÿฆ  Important Info About Mpox (Monkeypox): Stay Informed, Stay Safe!

Mpox is a viral infection that primarily spreads through close, personal contact โ€” not through the air like COVID-19 or measles. However, short-range airborne transmission is possible in specific situations, especially with prolonged face-to-face interaction.

๐Ÿงฌ Most Common Ways Mpox Spreads:

โœ”๏ธ Direct contact with an infected personโ€™s rash, lesions, or body fluids
โœ”๏ธ Touching contaminated objects like bedding, clothing, or surfaces
โœ”๏ธ Prolonged face-to-face contact, which can expose you to respiratory droplets

๐Ÿ˜ท Do Face Masks Help?

Yes! Wearing a face mask reduces the risk of transmissionโ€”especially:

โšซ In enclosed or crowded spaces

โšซ During close contact with someone infected

โšซ In healthcare or caregiving situations

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ How to Stay Protected:

โœ… Avoid skin-to-skin contact with people who have rashes or symptoms
โœ… Wash hands regularly with soap and water or alcohol-based sanitizer
โœ… Disinfect commonly touched surfaces
โœ… Wear a mask in high-risk or enclosed environments

Mpox is preventable. With the right knowledge and simple precautions, we can protect ourselves and our communities.

Letโ€™s spread awareness, not the virus.

How to Properly Use a Surgical Face Mask (Blue and White Side)
1. Identify the Sides:
- Blue/Green Side (Colored Side): Water-repellent layer โ€“ this side faces outward to block external fluids.

- White Side (Inner Layer): Absorbent layer โ€“ this side faces inward, toward your face, to absorb moisture from your breath.

2. Position the Mask Correctly:
- Ear loops: Hold the mask by the ear loops and place one loop around each ear.

- Top edge (with metal strip): This goes on the bridge of your nose.

3. Fit and Seal:
- Pinch the metal strip to fit the shape of your nose.

- Pull the bottom of the mask over your mouth and chin to ensure full coverage.

โœ… DOs:
- Wash your hands before and after touching the mask.

- Make sure there are no gaps on the sides.

- Replace the mask if it gets wet or dirty.

โŒ DONโ€™Ts:
- Donโ€™t wear the white side out unless you are sick and want to protect others (however, this is not recommended with surgical masks).

- Donโ€™t reuse disposable surgical masks.

- Donโ€™t touch the front of the mask once itโ€™s on

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing and Konsulta Caravan
April 14โ€“15, 2025
Davao del Sur State College (DSSC)

On April 14โ€“15, 2025, Davao del Sur State College (DSSC), in partnership with PhilHealth, successfully conducted a two-day event consisting of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing Ceremony and a Konsulta Caravan. The activity was held in collaboration with PhilHealth and its accredited partner healthcare facilities: MCDC Hospital, St. Dominic Hospital, South Davao Hospital, Villacrusis Hospital, Sunga Hospital, and Family Health Center Laboratory.

The MOU signing ceremony was a significant milestone in strengthening the cooperation between DSSC and PhilHealth in delivering accessible and quality healthcare services through the Konsulta Program. The signing was led by Dr. Augie E. Fuentes, DSSC College President, and Atty. Harvey L. Carcedo, MBA, PhilHealth Regional Vice President.

The event was witnessed by Dr. Marie Allexis Campaner-Belen, MBA, Medical Officer V, and Dr. Luciano Nasibog Jr., DSSC Vice President for Administration and Finance, signifying institutional support and commitment to the initiative.

Following the MOU signing, the Konsulta Caravan was conducted, offering various primary care services such as medical consultations, health profiling, laboratory services, and patient enrollment in the Konsulta Program. Notably, 465 DSSC employees and students actively participated in the caravan, taking advantage of the healthcare services made available on campus. This inclusive engagement contributed to promoting health awareness and preventive care among the academic community.

The collaborative efforts of all participating healthcare facilities ensured the successful implementation of the caravan, benefitting numerous residents in the region and enhancing community access to PhilHealth services.

This event marks the beginning of a strengthened partnership between DSSC, PhilHealth, and its partner facilities in pursuit of universal health care and improved public health outcomes.
