📢 Official Statement
This pertains to a Facebook post that called the attention of Simbulan Sto. Niño Hospital for allegedly demanding a down payment from a vehicular accident patient who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol.
In response, the Management conducted a thorough investigation. It was confirmed that the patient was initially brought to our hospital. As part of standard protocol, the patient and his watchers were informed that his case would not be covered by PhilHealth, as he was in violation of the law at the time of the incident. Driving under the influence of alcohol is penalized under Republic Act No. 10586.
However, we would like to clarify that the patient was not refused admission, nor was he asked to provide a down payment. His decision to transfer to another hospital was made voluntarily.
To reiterate, the Management categorically denies the allegation of demanding a down payment. We do affirm that patients are properly informed of their rights and obligations in accordance with the Magna Carta of Patients’ Rights and Obligations.
