World Tuberculosis (TB) Day, celebrated every March 24, serves as a reminder of the global fight against TB and the need for continued efforts to end this infectious disease. It highlights the importance of awareness, early detection, and preventive strategies to protect communities.

As part of this year’s observance, the Local Government Unit of Esperanza, led by Mayor Junjun Ploteña, in collaboration with the Department of Health SOCCSKSARGEN Region, Provincial Health Office, and Philippine Business for Social Progress, conducted a synchronized orientation on TB Preventive Treatment (TPT) for the Barangay Health Workers of Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat. This initiative aims to strengthen the knowledge and capacity of our frontline health providers in identifying individuals at risk, promoting early screening, and ensuring adherence to preventive treatment.

Barangay Health Workers play a vital role in the success of TB control programs. Through this orientation, they will be equipped with updated information, practical skills, and a deeper understanding of TPT protocols, enabling them to effectively educate their communities, support patients, and contribute to the national goal of eliminating TB.

This initiative underscores the vital role of community health workers in achieving a TB-free and healthier Esperanza.

August 28, 2025, the RHU Esperanza TB DOTS Center, in collaboration with DOH SOCCSKSARGEN Region and the Provincial Health Office of Sultan Kudarat, joins the nationwide celebration of National Lung Month this August with the purpose of raising public awareness on the importance of lung health and the prevention of respiratory diseases. Established under Presidential Proclamation No. 1761, this month-long observance focuses on educating communities about common lung conditions such as tuberculosis (TB), pneumonia, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

It also aims to highlight the dangers of smoking, va**ng, and exposure to air pollution. Through various activities like medical missions, health forums and awareness campaigns, National Lung Month promotes early detection, proper treatment, and healthy lifestyle practices.

The celebration was conducted at Sitio Ugis, Barangay Margues, one of the GIDAs of the Municipality, aiming to bring TB services at the grassroot level and IP community.

Activities conducted include:

✅Active Case Finding through Mobile Xray
✅PPD Testing to Children 14y.o and below
✅IEC on TB, MDR TB and TPT

Monitoring of MDR-TB patients is a critical component of tuberculosis control, aimed at ensuring treatment adherence, managing side effects, and tracking treatment outcomes. Regular follow-ups, laboratory tests such as sputum cultures and drug susceptibility testing, and close clinical supervision help detect any signs of treatment failure or complications early. It also allows healthcare providers to provide timely support, counseling, and interventions to improve patient compliance. Effective monitoring not only improves the chances of successful treatment but also reduces the risk of transmission and the development of further drug resistance.

As part of World TB Day Celebration, HRH Esperanza conducted series of PuroKalusugan Activities to different Barangays of the Municipality and rendered Information Dessemination on Tuberculosis, its causes, effects and prevention.

This activity aims to raise public awareness about the devastating health, social and economic consequences of tuberculosis (TB) and to step up efforts to end the global TB epidemic.

World Tuberculosis Day observed annually on March 24 which amplifies the urgency of ending tuberculosis—the world’s deadliest infectious disease. Tuberculosis continues to devastate millions globally, inflicting severe health, social, and economic consequences. This year’s theme, Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver, is a bold call for hope, urgency, and accountability.

🦠 PPD Testing to Children Contacts of People with Tuberculosis

Ikaw ba ay exposed sa patienting positibo ng TB? Wag mag alala, pwede ka ng uminom ng TPT o TB Preventive Therapy para hindi mahawa ng TB o madevelop sa Active TB. Available po sa RHU Esperanza TB DOTS Center ang TPT. Pumunta lamang Monday- Friday 8:00am-5:00pm.

Close contacts may receive preventive treatment (like TPT) to avoid developing active TB.It is important to break transmission by tracing contacts to stop the spread in high-risk areas like homes, workplaces, and schools.
