My Grassroots Journal: Protech Series
Entry 02: Breaking Limits in the Grassroots with Joseph Belga. 🏸🇵🇭

Potential is limitless. Resources are often limited. The difference is Grit. 💙

Today, we're featuring National Para-athlete Joseph. He joined the Protech Sports x Victoria Sports Club Q1 Tournament not to compete, but to give back as a coach and sparring partner.

His mission? To bring international standards to our local courts and remind every student-athlete that their situation doesn't set their ceiling. ✨

Special shoutouts to:
Philippine Para-badminton Team headed by Coach Kennie Asuncion
DGS Bulacan Training Camp led by Coach Anthony Bernardino
Team JCB and Coach JC Benipayo

Staying (badminton) match-fit in my late 40s. 💪

Pull-ups are a staple in my routine - essential for that overhead shot and long-term shoulder health. If we want to keep playing the game we love for years to come, we have to build the foundation today. 🛡️✨

Catch me on the sidelines (and the courts!) for My Grassroots Journal. Entry 01 featuring Mike Alayon is already live - do check it out on my FB page, album "Journal"! 📖☕

My Grassroots Journal | Entry 01: The Mission/Vision Edit 🏸📖

Back to my journalism roots. I spoke with Mike Alayon of Protech Sports - Philippines on the sidelines to discuss the real heartbeat of the game: The Grassroots. ✨

In this entry, we dive into:
✅ The inspiration behind the Quarterly Series.
✅ The pathway and incentives for emerging players.
✅ The Protech Ranking System.

This isn’t just a tournament; it’s a commitment to a transparent, professional standard for the Philippine badminton community. From the gear to the ranking, the goal is to give every grassroots athlete a roadmap to success. 🇵🇭

Coming soon: My Grassroots Journal | Protech Series 🏸📖

The tournament may be over, but the stories are just beginning. I grabbed some quick time with 7 key figures from last weekend’s Protech x Victoria Sports Club Q1 Tournament to talk about the real heartbeat of the game—the Grassroots.

Beyond the medals, it’s about the grit of the players, the support of the families, and the dedication of the advocates and coaches building the future of the sport from the ground up. 🔥

The Journal Lineup:
▪️Mike Alayon (Protech)
▪️Arlene Septin (Mom/Coach/Teacher/Mentor)
▪️Coach Ryan Pineda (Camiling POWER Smashers Badminton Center)
▪️Coach Edward Adriano (Dauntless Badminton Team)
▪️Coach Anthony Lee Deveza (Radicalz Badminton Academy, San Sebastian College-Recoletos Badminton Team)
▪️Prince Ervic Lloren (U19/16 Standout Player)
▪️Joseph Clyde Belga – National Para-Athlete

Watch out as we drop their "Journal Entries" throughout the series. This is for the players, the dreamers, the grinders, and everyone who believes in the Philippine badminton grassroots. 🇵🇭

Looking back at the energy from last weekend’s Protech x Victoria Sports Club Q1 Tournament, ito yung isa sa mga bagay na nagbibigay-buhay sa court...It takes a village to raise an athlete, and BEHIND EVERY CHAMPION is a SUPPORT SYSTEM that BELIEVED IN THEM FIRST. 🏆

Sa lahat ng mga "MVPs behind the scenes" - moms, dads, guardians, coaches, and mentors - kayo ang lakas ng ating mga young champions. From prepping gears to the loudest cheers on the sidelines, your presence makes all the difference.

Mommy Madz reached out to share these photos of her daughter, Kathlyn. Congratulations, Kathlyn, on your podium finish! 🎉 Being a two-time Palarong Pambansa qualifier is a huge feat, made possible by your hard work, support system, and the coaching staff of Coach A at Radicalz Badminton Academy.

Ngayong Women’s Month, we celebrate all the badminton moms, aunties, women coaches and players who inspire us. Salute sa inyong lahat! 💐💪

U16 QF was a total tactical battle! 🏸☕️

In the first set, Duallo and Villa used their height and power to dominate the court...but watch how Atienza and Borgador adjusted.

Who do you think survived the 3rd set? Yes, meron 3rd set. 🔥

Full games are up in my 'Reels' tab - check out all 6 livestreams from Sunday. 😺

I had a brief chat with Coach Anthony (Coach A) last Saturday at the Protech x Victoria Sports Club Q1 Tournament. He spoke about the Radicalz Badminton Academy's (RBA) mission, and kahit sandali lang, kita ko agad yung passion niya para dito. I followed their FB page right away to get to know the group and their progress. 🏸

Then yesterday, the results started speaking for themselves on the podium.🏆

For those looking for a training program, check out their official details below. 👇

Addendum: I’m actually preparing a separate post about a 'Women’s Month' story from this weekend - isang inspiring story about a mom’s support and her daughter’s hard work under RBA. Abangan niyo 'yan. It is truly inspiring to see this kind of collaboration at the grassroots level.

Still processing the high-octane energy from the Protech Sports - Philippines x Victoria Sports Club Tournament over the weekend. 🏸☕️

It was more than just matches; it was a celebration for the badminton community. Huge thanks to Protech Philippines and Mike Alayon for the invite - it’s an honor to document the growth of the sport alongside those who truly invest in the grassroots.

Seeing the technical mentorship on the sidelines and the raw talent emerging on the courts reminds me why the grassroots level is the most vital part of the journey. This is where the future of Philippine badminton is built.

To everyone who makes these events happen: salute. 💙

Stay tuned! I’ve got some insightful interviews coming your way soon.
