🍼 CRADLE CAP 101: What Every Mom Should Know
“Doc, bakit parang may balakubak si baby sa ulo?”
This might be cradle cap — and don’t worry, it’s super common and usually harmless.
=====
❓ What is Cradle Cap?
Cradle cap (a.k.a. infantile seborrheic dermatitis) is a skin condition that causes scaly, greasy patches on your baby’s scalp. Parang balakubak, minsan makapal, dilaw-dilaw, or flaky.
✅ Not contagious
✅ Not itchy (most of the time)
✅ Not because you’re doing something wrong
=====
📅 Kailan ito lumalabas?
Usually appears in the first 2–6 weeks of life
Often clears on its own by 6 to 12 months
=====
👀 Common areas:
• Ulo (scalp) — pinaka-common
• Sa may kilay, tenga, leeg, minsan singit
=====
💡 Why does it happen?
• Overactive oil glands (stimulated by mom’s hormones during pregnancy)
• Traps dead skin cells, forming thick, waxy flakes
=====
🧼 How to manage it at home:
1. Maghugas ng ulo regularly — mild lang!
Use a gentle baby shampoo 2–3x a week.
Avoid scrubbing too hard.
2. Maglagay ng oil bago maligo
Coconut oil, baby oil, or mineral oil
➡ Gently massage and leave for 15–20 minutes to soften the scales
3. Use a soft baby brush or fine-tooth comb
After oil and bath, you can gently brush off the flakes.
4. Avoid picking or peeling!
Baka magdulot ng sugat or infection.

🚩 When to see your Pedia:
• May redness, swelling, or may amoy na hindi normal
• May fluid o dugo
• Lumalawak o kumakalat
• Mukhang uncomfortable na si baby
=====
❤️ Reminder:
Cradle cap is not your fault.
Hindi ito dahil madumi si baby or kulang ka sa pag-aalaga. Most babies go through this stage. With time, gentle care, and some patience, mawawala din ‘yan.
