A monumental milestone in surgery was recently achieved at Dr. Jorge P. Royeca City Hospital (DJPRCH), where a multidisciplinary medical team successfully performed an incision-less, ultrasound-guided inguinal hernia repair on a female infant.

Led by the hospital’s Chief of Clinics and Pediatric Surgeon, Dr. Kliendio Rovillos, the team included Dr. Mark Naval (Pediatric Surgeon), Dr. Kay Arancon (Pediatric Anesthesiologist), Dr. Nica Peñafort (Radiologist), and Dr. Charlton Lim (Medical Officer).

You read that right—hernia repair without making an incision. This "surgery without the knife" means the repair was conducted via percutaneous suturing, resulting in no wounds and no scars for the young patient. Dr. Rovillos shared: Our goal was to repair the hernia with as little impact on the child's body as possible. To our knowledge, this is the first case in the country.

This milestone was reached with the full support of the Chief of Hospital, Dr. Ryan Oscar Aplicador, a surgeon and advocate for minimally invasive surgery. Beyond the technical success, the hospital ensured the highest ethical standards and data privacy compliance throughout the process. Dr. Aplicador stated: "This milestone proves that our city hospital can lead the way in medical innovation. We are committed to supporting our specialists and modernizing our surgical healthcare to ensure a brighter and safer future for our young patients."

This collaborative victory demonstrates that when institutional leadership and a dedicated medical team unite, clinical excellence becomes a reality for the entire community.

324 Young Boys Benefit from Operation Tuli 2026

324 young boys successfully underwent free circumcision services during the Libreng Operation Tuli 2026 held today, May 4, 2026, at the Dr. Jorge P. Royeca City Hospital (DJPRCH).

This achievement highlights a deep-rooted commitment to the families of General Santos City, ensuring that professional, high-quality medical care is accessible and delivered with compassion.

The success of this initiative was born from the proactive leadership of City Mayor Hon. Lorelie G. Pacquiao and Punong Barangay of Labangal Hon. Alberto "Bobby" Pacquiao. Their vision was realized through a powerful partnership with the Bobslor Pacquiao Foundation, Inc., LGU GenSan, the City Health Office, and the Philippine Society of General Surgeons - Davao Southern Mindanao Chapter (PSGS-DSMC). This collaboration proved instrumental in bridging the gap for hundreds of families, transforming a vital surgical service into a meaningful gift for the community.

"Our mission has always been to bridge the gap between our facility and the people we serve," shared Dr. Ryan Oscar Aplicador, who serves both the DJPRCH Chief of Hospital and the President of the PSGS-DSMC. This sentiment was echoed by Chief of Clinics Dr. Kliendio Rovillos, who emphasized that such programs are at the very core of the hospital's dedication to public health. For the hospital leadership, the ultimate reward is witnessing the city’s leaders and the medical community unite for the welfare of the youth.

The day’s operations relied heavily on the expert skill of the Philippine Society of General Surgeons - Davao Southern Mindanao Chapter whose expert surgeons provided the essential medical skill required for an operation of this scale. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the surgical consultants and resident trainees from Gensan Doctors Hospital and St. Elizabeth Hospital, the surgeons of DJPRCH Department of Surgery and the DJPRCH doctors who participated on this milestone.

Appreciation is also extended to the dedicated representatives from the City Health Office—Ms Liza Jean Pellarada, RM, Jonalyn Lising,RM, Mylene Mendez, RM, Xenia Joy Beatisula,RM and Marlyn Bugarin, RM whose presence was vital to the mission's success.

Equally vital was the Nursing Services Office, led by Chief Nurse Dr. Joann Sienes. Alongside dedicated nursing leaders and staff, their clinical expertise and tireless care served as the backbone of the event. This was further supported by the seamless coordination of the administrative, logistics, and maintenance teams of DJPRCH, as well as the selfless volunteers who fueled this cause.

Above all, we thank the families of General Santos City for the trust placed in our hands. Guiding these young boys through this significant rite of passage is a responsibility we carry with pride as we continue to strengthen the foundation of a healthier city—one child at a time.
