Goldie Caunca and Maki Severino
HOW BIG IS YOUR BRAVE Hydrocephalus awareness shirt. A fund raising for the hospitalization costs of one of the strongest Hyrdo Warrior, 5-month old Xavi Severino.
Markko Aundre Xebastian was born on July 26, 2016 to parents Maki Severino and Goldie Caunca, diagnosed with Congenital Hydrocephalus secondary to Aqueductal Stenosis. This means that the ventricles in his brain are narrower than normal, thus the accumulation of Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) is creating pressure and injuring his brain. Xavi underwent his first surgery last August 24, 2016, a Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt, where a tube (shunt) was inserted into his skull to aid the circulation and drainage of the excess CSF, he was 29 days old then. He had a very good and fast recovery.
The series of hospitalization after his operation started October, where he had his first seizure episode, and his maintenance medication started. November, he again was admitted for amoebiasis. Maki's insurance and Goldie's Philhealth was of big help with the insurance coverage and deductions from the hospital bills.
January 3, 2017, Xavi was brought to his Pedia-Neurologist for check up as he's been having fever for 4 days already, admitted here at The Doctor's Hospital, a shunt tap was performed to check the fluid flowing in his shunt, the specimen extracted was purulent, indicating that the shunt got infected, he was diagnosed with Ventriculitis. Xavi was scheduled right away for the removal of his shunt, currently he has a tube vent attached to an empty blood bag for the drainage of the pus.
January 8, he was brought to the operating room for the second time to perform a venous cutdown* because he didn't have a patent IV line. Nurses and even doctors couldn't find a patent line for Xavi, therefore the cutdown was the last and only option left.
Xavi is doing well for a baby with a tube vent on his right parietal, and a venous cutdown on his left jugular vein, a figther this little one. He overcame all surgeries, all of which had quick recoveries. He is responding very well with all his interventions, surviving every day.
But with all the surgeries, all the laboratory tests, and medication, the hospital bill is off the roof. We are nearing the insurance coverage, not yet including the second operation, and all the doctors under Xavi's service and those who performed the Venous cutdown.
We humbly ask for a little help by purchasing this HOW BIG IS YOUR BRAVE shirt for P400 only. All proceeds will go to the hospitalization of the little Hydro Warrior Xavi. For pre-order please send us a message, through No One Fights Alone - BCD, Merch Tees, Maki Severino and Goldie Caunca.

*A venous cutdown is a procedure where a small surgical incision made in a vein of a patient who has suffered vascular collapse to permit the introduction of IV fluids or drugs. In Xavi's case, he is on antibiotic meropenem already and is administered intravenously.
