Every April, Autism Awareness Month is celebrated to offer a chance to promote acceptance, empathy, and understanding for people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The activity aims to eliminate misconceptions and beliefs by educating participants about the signs and symptoms, traits, and varied experiences of individuals with autism.

Through raising awareness, an accepting culture in which people with autism are respected for their special abilities and by highlighting their accomplishments and talents which later strengthens the autism community and eventually reduces stigma. This activity encourages the development of resources and services that address the demands of people on the spectrum, which helps to create a friendly atmosphere. Furthermore, it serves as an encouragement for social change, motivating participants to improve inclusivity and accessibility and help create a more just society for those with autism.

This is why some kids are referred to Occupational Therapists first to target foundational skills before starting with speech therapy 🧐

Parents often ask “bakit kelangan mag-OT pa ng anak ko eh di siya nakapagsasalita at speech lang naman ang problema niya?” after receiving their referral from their doctors.

May this be a reminder to our dear parents that
OTs and SLPs are professionals that work hand in hand to help your child. It’s not one before the other. OTs help out with your child’s work behaviors and sensory processing skills while SLPs facilitate communication. Each child is different and together your OTs and SLPs collaborate to build foundational skills for learning and functional living.

Sorry to be party poopers.. but really, while you have absolute control of your baby or toddler’s life, and they are not subject to peer pressure yet, don’t make iPads, tabs or phones a part of their life. So many things fascinate them, let them enjoy the simple beauty and discoveries in life .That means parents have to put away that phone during play and dinner time too , unfortunately. Monkey see , monkey do 🙊
