Erla Grace Lozano Agutaya, Registered Psychologist and Psychometrician My Counselling Philosophy:

I am Erla—a registered psychologist, psychometrician, and educator. Sometimes we simply need help reconnecting with it.

“Solution-Focused, Compassionate, and Holistic Psychological Services—all for the Glory of God!”

Book a session with me: https://seriousmd.com/doc/erla-grace-agutaya I believe that change is the only constant in life, and that living well means learning to embrace the present one day at a time. My helping journey began back in high school—first with peers, then with students, and now I’m honored to extend that care to the wider community through counseling and psychotherapy. At the core of my approach is the belief that you are not the problem; the problem is the problem. I trust that we all have a natural desire to grow and the inner resources to navigate life’s challenges. I believe that people are the experts of their own lives—they know what matters to them and what changes they want to see. My role is to walk alongside you, listening empathically and supporting you in discovering your own strengths, solutions, and goals in a space that feels safe, collaborative, and respectful. My therapeutic orientation is grounded in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). This approach emphasizes “solution talk” over “problem talk”, and encourages clients to recognize what’s already working and how to do more of it. Together, we’ll explore new ways of viewing your situation, identify useful behaviors, and co-create realistic action plans that support meaningful change. I value what you can do, what’s working, and the steps—no matter how small—that move you closer to your preferred future. I believe that growth happens through action, reflection, and recognition of your own agency. As a culturally aware practitioner, I deeply respect the diversity of each individual’s background. I commit to practicing cultural humility, acknowledging my own biases, and continually learning to create an inclusive, affirming environment where you feel seen and heard. I also see myself as a lifelong learner—engaging in ongoing supervision, training, and self-reflection to ensure I provide ethical, compassionate, and effective care. Above all, I believe that each person has a unique purpose and direction. Healing begins with the willingness to change, and I am honored to be part of that journey with every client I serve.

What a way to wrap up my October and kickstart November! 🌿✨

October was truly a meaningful month — not just because it’s Mental Health Awareness Month, but because I had the privilege of sharing my advocacy with different communities. I was invited as a guest speaker at our church (Iloilo Christian and Missionary Alliance Church) and by the English Elites Organization, where I spoke about the importance of mental health awareness and self-care.

By the end of that week, I also completed a part 1 training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) — an evidence-based treatment for trauma-related disorders facilitated by Traumatology Institute of the Philippines and White Coat Psychological Services. Even though I wasn’t feeling well at that time, I pushed through and learned so much about helping clients heal from trauma safely and effectively.

My October ended with a surprise radio guesting through an invitation from Philippine Mental Health Association, where I represented the organization as a resource person. I previously served as a volunteer counselor for their Remote Mental Health and Psychosocial Services Program from May to August, so it was an honor to speak about the realities of depression and anxiety on a national platform.

And finally — the biggest highlight — I officially earned my Postgraduate Certificate in Forensic Psychology from the Philippine Investigation and Forensic Science Academy! 👩🏻‍💼🔍 I honestly didn’t know what to expect at first, but the experience healed my inner child who once dreamed of being a detective like Kim Possible or Sherlock Holmes. Defending my report in a mock court setup was nerve-wracking yet empowering — a true reminder that continuous learning never stops. I also met incredible professionals from the fields of criminology, law, and education, making the experience even richer.

As I welcome the rest of the year, I’m excited for more opportunities to serve, learn, and grow — both as an educator and as a mental health professional. 💚
