'Alyansa' pledges stronger infrastructure, disaster resilience for Iloilo
The administration-backed Senate slate, Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas, vowed to push for stronger infrastructure development and disaster resilience measures in Iloilo, recognizing the province’s vulnerability to typhoons, flooding, and other climate-related threats.
The Alyansa ticket is composed of former Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos, Makati City Mayor Abby Binay, Senator Ramon B**g Revilla, Senator Pia Cayetano, former Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, Senator Lito Lapid, former Senator Manny Pacquiao, former Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, Senator Francis “Tol” Tolentino, ACT-CIS Representative and former Social Welfare Secretary Erwin Tulfo, and Deputy Speaker Camille Villar.
Navotas City Rep. Toby Tiangco, Alyansa’s campaign manager, underscored the need for modernized flood control systems, climate-adaptive infrastructure, and better disaster response programs to protect communities and sustain Iloilo’s economic growth.
“Iloilo is a thriving center of trade and agriculture, but its potential is threatened by recurring floods and climate disasters. Alyansa will push for policies that strengthen disaster preparedness and fund critical infrastructure to keep Ilonggos safe and businesses running,” Tiangco said.
Alyansa pledged to support major flood mitigation projects, including the expansion of the Jaro Floodway and Iloilo River rehabilitation efforts, to prevent catastrophic flooding that disrupts livelihoods and damages homes.
The coalition also promised to push for better roads, bridges and transport networks to ensure faster economic growth and smoother connectivity between Iloilo City, rural towns and neighboring provinces.
With Iloilo frequently affected by typhoons and heavy rains, Alyansa aims to champion policies that improve early warning systems, provide better evacuation centers, and allocate more funding for emergency response and relief operations.
“Disasters don’t have to mean devastation. With the right policies and funding, we can make Iloilo more resilient and prepared,” Tiangco said.
