"Ito na nga yung kinakatakutan ko, lalo dami ng Ready prepared foods na matataas ang Sodium and fat content. "
Today, I served as a clinical dietitian rotator at the Pediatric Ward, and it saddened me to see that many of the inpatients, aged 9β12 years old, are already suffering from conditions such as Acute Kidney Injury, Glomerulonephritis, Nephrotic Syndrome, or Chronic Kidney Disease. As I reviewed their dietary histories, I found that most of them frequently consume salty, fatty, instant, and processed foods, as well as sodas, sometimes twice a day. These unhealthy food choices are possible major contributors to their current conditions.
It is alarming that cases of kidney failure are becoming more rampant, and the affected age group is getting younger. To all parents and guardians, always prioritize the best food for your children. Kidney diseases, once left untreated, are often irreversible. Choose a healthy diet guided by Pinggang Pinoy for balanced meals across all food groups, and ensure your children stay well-hydrated. If diagnosed with CKD, better seek professional help from a Registered Nutritionist Dietitian to modify your protein intake, electrolytes and other nutrients directly connected to Renal failure.
