This is why some kidney stones can cause blood in urine (hematuria), because of their sharp edges scrape against the urinary tract lining as they move.

Key Reasons for Bleeding:

* Friction & Abrasion: Stones, especially those with sharp edges, rub against the urinary tract lining (urothelium), causing tiny cuts and abrasions, breaking blood vessels.

* Inflammation: The stone acts as a foreign body, triggering inflammation, which makes blood vessels fragile and prone to leaking.

* Blockage & Pressure: A stone can block urine flow, increasing pressure in the kidney and ureter, damaging delicate tissues and vessels.

* Stone Movement: As stones travel from kidney to bladder, they irritate and injure the lining of these tubes, resulting in bleeding.
