The first segment, "Safe Spaces Talk: Understanding and Preventing Sexual Harassment in the Workplace," provided participants with crucial knowledge on recognizing, addressing, and reporting instances of sexual harassment. The session emphasized the legal and ethical responsibilities of both employers and employees in maintaining professional boundaries.
This was immediately followed by the guide, "Saan Tayo Lalapit?": A Guide to Seeking Support That Cares. This talk provided students with a clear roadmap of internal and external mechanismsโfrom university resources to legal aid and psychological supportโensuring they know exactly where and how to seek help should they encounter difficult or abusive situations during their internship or professional life.
Ensuring Compliance and Relevance with SIPP Guidelines
The second half of the seminar shifted to the legal framework governing student work immersion, guaranteeing the students are compliant and aware of their rights.
Attorney-at-law Gabrielle G. Gaab took the stage to discuss Revised Guidelines for Student Internship Program in the Philippines (SIPP) for all Programs," with the central theme being โEnsuring Safety, Compliance, and Relevance in Every Program.โ
Her talk clarified the mandatory requirements for all student internship programs, covering student rights, required documentation, hours of work, and the specific responsibilities of the university, the host training establishment, and the student themselves. The session was crucial in moving students from general enthusiasm to legal readiness for their professional training.
The seminar successfully armed the graduating students with the knowledge necessary to navigate the complexities of the modern workplace, ensuring they are not only skilled but also safe, legally aware, and ready to maximize their professional development opportunities.
