In support of the Department of Health’s National Tuberculosis Program (NTP) and in partnership with the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), a Free Chest X-ray activity under the Active Case Finding (ACF) strategy was successfully conducted on September 19, 2025 (Friday). The activity was led by Ms. Andeline L. Durante, RN, Municipal TB Coordinator, and aimed to enhance the early detection of tuberculosis cases within the community. A total of 205 individuals benefited from the free chest X-ray services, further strengthening the municipality’s commitment to TB prevention and control. TB is one of the priority health problems of DOH, Purokalusugan as part of strategy encourages the community to avail free xray an Active Case Finding.

In conjunction with this, PhilHealth’s Konsulta Program was also implemented during the event, providing recipients with access to essential primary care services. This joint initiative reflects the continued commitment of the local health office to delivering accessible, comprehensive, and integrated health services to the community.

On September 9, 2025 (Tuesday), a series of essential health services were successfully conducted in Brgy. Binibihan, highlighting the community’s commitment to preventive health and public safety. The activity included Rabies Awareness education, HIV testing, and Drug testing, providing vital health information and services to the residents.

Simultaneously, the first round of School-Based Immunization was implemented at Sogod National High School, where 54 out of 70 Grade 7 students received their vaccines, marking a strong start to this important public health initiative.

Carigara CVW Rollout Training on the PMNP Information System Household Convergence Scorecard was successfully conducted on September 4, 2025, at the LGU Liga Hall, bringing together Community Health Workers (CHWs) from all 49 barangays of the municipality. The training aimed to enhance the capacity of CHWs in using the Household Convergence Scorecard—an essential tool under the Philippine Multisectoral Nutrition Project (PMNP)—to effectively monitor, integrate, and report health and nutrition services at the household level. This initiative supports data-driven planning and strengthens multisectoral collaboration to improve the overall well-being of families across Carigara.

✨Simultaneous Bayanihan Health Services Activity✨

In celebration of Family Planning Month and National Breastfeeding Awareness Month, a series of health services and health education activities were successfully conducted across various barangays in Carigara.

On August 11, 2025, Brgy. Sagkahan hosted the Family Planning and PhilHealth Konsulta Program, highlighting accessible healthcare for families. Culminating the month-long observance, a comprehensive health event was held on August 29, 2025, led by Dr. Ma. Bella Profetana, featuring a VIA screening and breastfeeding education session. Miss Carigara 2025, Ms. Cheena Maria Engreso Bodo, also gave a talk on the importance of proper nutrition for breastfeeding and pregnant women. Simultaneously, Brgy. Canlampay conducted a Family Development Session focusing on family planning and mental health, while Brgy. Barugohay Norte provided PhilHealth Konsulta services and VIA screening—ensuring a wide reach of essential health services to the community.

To promote the judicious and efficient use of drug commodities, the Department of Health – Eastern Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-EV CHD) informs all Mental Health Medicine Access Sites on the importance of Proper Inventory Management of mental health drug commodities.

All sites are hereby instructed to release medications based on their expiration dates rather than the date of delivery. Recent observations indicate that some newly delivered stocks have shorter shelf lives than earlier batches.

To minimize wastage and ensure the optimal use of available supplies, priority must be given to dispensing medicines with the earliest expiry dates.

Your immediate attention and full cooperation in implementing this protocol are crucial and sincerely appreciated.

Bayanihan in Action💖

Last August 7, 2025, a bloodletting activity was successfully held in Barangay Sawang, Carigara, gathering 69 donors. Followed by another session today August 11, 2025, in Barangay Libo, Carigara, Leyte, with 57 donors.

These combined efforts marked the achievement of the 1% target for the National Voluntary Blood Services Program (NVBSP), achieving a total of 567 donors for this year’s annual goal. The event in Barangay Libo also featured additional health services, including first patient encounters and dental check-ups, further promoting holistic community health care.

Alongside with the activities in Barangay Libo, an informal meeting was conducted with the Barangay Council, led by Hon. Constantino Cadiente Jr., to discuss future health plans and services aimed at improving local health programs. The meeting also served as a platform to introduce the Department of Health’s Purokalusugan Approach, presented by Municipal PK Coordinator Ms. Maricel Pore and DOH Nurse Ms. Rhean Nartea, underscoring the importance of integrated and people-centered healthcare at the barangay level.
