Katatagan Plus is an evidence- and community-based mental health and early intervention program for individuals at risk for mental health issues. The program uses a bio-psycho-social-spiritual framework and aims to help individuals experiencing adversity develop adaptive coping skills such as emotion regulation, stress management, interpersonal skills and problem-solving skills in order for them to become more resilient. These skills can help in managing challenges both in the short and long term.

The program will be conducted online for 8 modules facilitated once a week, on weekends from September until November. Certificates of completion will be given to those who complete all 8 sessions and the pre- and post-test evaluations. Please note that this program is not a replacement for psychotherapy.

🥙✨NOURISH TO FLOURISH PROGRAM: Mind and Body in Literacy✨📚

The PNHS Health and Nutririon Unit and Care Center launched its joint program, "Nourish to Flourish: Mind and Body in Literacy," last August 6, 2025 at the PNHS Social Hall. This program is spearheaded by Pangasinan National High School’s brilliant Principal IV, Dr. Mariela N. Calima, in line with School-Based Feeding Program under the DepEd’s OKD.

This program promotes healthy eating which provides positive impact on physical, cognitive and mental health. Healthy eating also promotes optimal physical growth, development and overall well-being.

Further, this program recognizes that proper nutrition is fundamental to optimal development and well-being, as per Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.

Kick-off highlights:
✨ Invocation by Ms. Pinky Rose Cruz, setting a positive tone
✨ Nurse Jerelle Sison's welcome address, highlighting holistic well-being
✨ Reading session by Ms. Reycelyn Maylas, stimulating young minds
✨ Nutrition message and closing remarks by Sir Clement, emphasizing health's integral role
✨ Nutrition Time, underscoring proper nutrition's importance

The feeding program was conducted by the Self-Help Feeding Committee Coordinator Nurse Jerelle Sison, members Mr. Aldrin Binarao and Mr. Joshua Palaganas, supervised by Administrative Officer Engr. Alberto Zipagan and TLE Head Teacher Mr. Clement Villa.

The students are guided by the reading tutors, Guidance Coordinator Ms. Reycelyn Maylas and Guidance Advocate Ms. Pinky Rose Cruz with the help of Ms. Josefina Tandingan.

By merging literacy and health, we're cultivating holistic growth and development in our students.

It's about understanding each other, supporting each other's growth, and valuing every perspective.
By working together, we can create a learning environment that's not just about academics, but about helping each other become the best version of ourselves.

💭Kumusta? Let’s talk about the importance of providing trauma-informed care to support students' mental health and well-being after experiencing a traumatic event like a typhoon.

👥Kaya’t may tinatawag tayong Psychological Debriefing.

💗Let's work together to provide our students with the care and support they need during this challenging time.

📚Tayo’y patuloy na Mag-Sama-sama Para Sa Bayang Bumabasa. Tulong-tulong Sa Pagtamasa ng Child-Friendly, Bully-free at Safe Space Para Sa Mga Bata.

What if school wasn’t just about achievement… but about becoming? 🌱

In “Maslow Before Bloom… Then Gardner, Jung & Goleman: Educating the Whole Child With Needs, Strengths, Meaning & Emotional Intelligence”, Dr. Bryan Pearlman invites educators, counselors, and leaders to reimagine what it truly means to help students thrive. Building on the truth that kids can’t learn if they don’t feel safe, seen, or supported, this book goes beyond Maslow to explore how we help students grow—academically, emotionally, and personally.

Dr. Pearlman reminds us: survival isn’t the goal. Students deserve meaning, confidence, and a chance to discover who they’re meant to be.

This is a call to action. A guidebook. A reminder.

If you’ve ever believed your students are more than their behaviors…
If you’ve ever questioned a system that reduces kids to test scores…
If you’ve ever wished for a better way…
You were right.

Let’s stop managing kids—and start mentoring them.
Let’s move from grading what they produce to honoring who they are.
Let’s help them not just survive—but become.

Maslow Before Bloom… Then Gardner, Jung & Goleman is more than a framework.
It’s a philosophy.
A movement.
And the future of education—where science meets soul, and every child is empowered to thrive.

Research in developmental psychology confirms that bullying often results from environmental influences rather than biology (Olweus, 1993; Bandura, 1977). Studies show that children who engage in bullying behavior are more likely to have experienced abuse, trauma, or inconsistent discipline at home (Espelage & Swearer, 2004; Thornberg, 2010). Exposure to violence, whether direct or observed, can shape aggressive behavior patterns.

Repeated exposure to violent content in television, social media, and video games has been linked to increased aggression and a reduced sensitivity to the suffering of others (Anderson et al., 2010; Gentile & Bushman, 2012). This kind of content can make harmful behavior appear normal or acceptable to impressionable viewers.

To break the cycle, we must address root causes such as trauma, harmful media exposure, and the absence of positive role models. Prevention begins with education, emotional development, and fostering environments of empathy and respect at home, in schools, and across communities.

Let us teach empathy. Let us model respect. Let us unlearn harm.
