Our Journey as Dugos: Raw Wild Honey Mindanao

When you lose someone important in your life, like the father of my husband who died with a Cardiac Arrest at a young age of 50’s, you will realize how valuable our single, healthy life is.

My husband, also the main advocate and user of this product, values his health like he loves our family. He always finds time for exercise and provides healthy food in our table. As a single income family, he also is always in prayer of a good source of living besides his salary. We prayed for this business.

It all started from buying a bottle (375 mL) of raw and wild honey from a total stranger who happen to pass by at a retreat house my husband was assigned to facilitate a spiritual retreat for college students around five (5) years ago. He loved the taste of it, recognized the honey that his good and hardworking father gave them when they were younger. And then he was offered with a gallon of 6 Liters kept under his table in their office. Upon a simple chat, we realized that we can sell some of those wild honey given the fact that it is hard to find a trusted quality of a raw honey. Having a good taste bud for it and earning a friend who only sells it house by house, we came to a set up where we want to share this blessing with others.

These wild honey collectors travels away from home to remote forests in Northern Mindanao for hot or cold days and uncomfortable nights. They gather honey from beehives up the tall trees these wild bees prefer. They will be lucky to be asked to get one from a nearby village whose farm owners want to harvest those honey from the wild bees locally called Putyukan who happen to be in their farm. In partnership, we buy these by gallons from them through cash knowing the value of cash for their thriving families. It will save them the time to sell these in the city, where people will always doubt of its quality, its sanitary handling especially with the bottles, and expenses of selling them house by house daily when some of their family members skip classes to help them sell quickly as well.
