Our healing school, Academy for Wholistic Healing Arts, Inc (AWHAI) introduced in January 2014 Dorn Spine Alignment Technique through one of its founding incorporator, Reiki Master Teacher Thomas Zudrell in collaboration with AWHAI President Reiki Master Teacher Dr. Jo Bilasano. When RMT Thomas decided to uproot his Filipino family to Germany, he entrusted the propagation of Dorn Spine Alignment workshop and Therapy to Reiki Master Teacher June Mendoza,
Dorn is a German manual therapy technique to restore the body’s dymanic body balance. Dorn is Gentle, Safe, Effective and Wholistic.
DORN METHOD is a gentle treatment for the vertebrae and other joints. It is useful in treating illnesses directly or indirectly connected to the spinal column. The DORN METHOD is free of dangerous side effects, completely safe and yet very effective. No medication is needed.
Many people have at some stage in their live been troubled by acute sciatic or back pain or suffer from chronic pains and diseases where conventional medicine has been of no or limited help. For those who found their way to the farmer and sawmill owner Dieter Dorn in Lautrach, Germany or other DORN METHOD Therapists, it seems like a miracle how with a few simple, sensitive hand movements the problem went away and the pain very quickly vanished and, for many of them, did not return. Lay Healer Dieter Dorn, founder of the DORN METHOD has been doing this for over thirty years with great success. Dieter Dorn developed the method himself.
DIETER DORN
Born in August 1938 in South Germany he is a Sawmill owner working for the farmers in the area. About 30 years ago while lifting a heavy log he suffered Lumbago (sciatic pain). He was relieved of that pain by an old farmer with some fast and simple movements. He was asking the old Healer if he also could learn this technique and the old man said to him: You already know it! Dieter Dorn was his last patient, soon after the old man died without teaching Dieter Dorn his knowledge. So Dieter Dorn had to learn it all by himself. His first patient was his wife who had often severe headaches for years. According to some doctors her transverse processes of the cervical vertebrae where too long and could be shortened by surgery but she refused to be operated. Dieter Dorn checked his wife's neck and found that the vertebrae are only twisted and the x-ray was not a correct reading. He gently pushed the vertebrae back in place while his wife made rotating movements at the same time. Since then her headaches are history and she became the most prominent patient of Dieter Dorn.
That was the beginning of the Dorn Method! Soon after Dieter Dorn helped many people in the neighborhood by correcting their different leg length and aligning their joints. To his surprise many other ailments like Knee pains, Heart Problems, Hearing Problems and others also seem to have disappeared. The answer to this he found when he discovered by coincidence a book about TCM traditional Chinese medicine where acupuncture and acupressure was used to help many ailments. During his treatments he accidentally also treated the meridians along the spine and because of the connection between the spinal cord and the inner organs connected through the spinal nerves many problems disappeared when the misaligned vertebrae where corrected. By meeting and helping Dr. Thomas Hansen M.D. Dieter Dorn started to learn more about anatomy and physiology and together they experimented with this new Method for several years. Some years later Dieter Dorn decided it was time to teach other people this wonderful Method and he started to give seminars. Many learned from him and are now following his foot steps with equal success.
THE SPINAL COLUMN
Inside our human bodies we have a very stable and yet flexible skeleton, which primarily makes possible the body’s outer form, stability and mobility. This skeleton is not only the central support organ of the body, but it is also the stable protective shell for the spinal cord, our central nerve cord, which links the brain to all parts of the body as any main road or highway links to all the side streets of a city supplying the subdivisions. The spinal column is made up of the different moveable vertebrae, which are cushioned against each other by the intervertebral disks. The agility of the spinal column and joints is maintained by a complicated muscle and tendon system. The 7 cervical vertebrae, 12 thoracic vertebrae, 5 lumbar vertebrae, the sacrum and the coccyx make up the structure of the spinal column and allow us to stand upright. The spinal column supports our head, shoulders and arms. Through the sacrum the spinal column is connected to the pelvis, which in turn rests on the legs by means of the hip joints. Ideally the skeleton should be symmetrical, harmonic and in a static-dynamic alignment equilibrium.
Everybody has been in situations which have upset this ‘bone order’. Joints, for the most part, have been moved out of place (or “pulled out of the socket”, “twisted”, “misjudged”, “dislocated” etc.). This is particularly true of the joints between the 24 back vertebrae and the joints of the sacrum. The result of this is pain or restricted movement. Many people can re-align the body again with certain movements, mostly unconsciously. Sometimes however this does not work and in these cases external help is necessary. The result of long-term “bone dislocation” are as diverse as there are names of illnesses today. When the skeleton is re-aligned, irrespective of the method, people almost always feel better and the symptoms or illness - whatever name it goes by - disappear or abate. In some cases even psychological connections to spinal problems can then be dissolved.
OBLIQUE PELVIC
The message of the DORN METHOD is quite easy and can be understood by anyone, even without medical knowledge. And even for people with medical knowledge the DORN METHOD is somewhat revolutionary and lots of facts are basically unknown in conventional medicine. The DORN METHOD always bases its treatment on the correction of uneven leg length. A difference in leg length can be diagnosed in practically all humans today. Our experience shows, however, that almost everyone’s legs are of perfectly equal length. There are only very few cases of a difference in leg length, due to operations, accidents, bone diseases or problems since birth. The legs however are the support columns for the pelvis. If the support columns are of uneven length, then the pelvis is twisted in its daily movements. We refer to this condition as oblique pelvic position. It is a widespread condition suffered by many people today. The pelvis should be the horizontal basis for a straight spinal column. Thus an oblique pelvic position will, in the long or short term, lead to an asymmetrical, crooked or displaced spinal column. This, in turn, often leads to the displacement of the sacrum (on which the spinal column stands) and numerous chronic problems: “scoliosis, pains in the sacrum, hip joint pains, knee pains, foot problems, hernias, sinking of the uterus, abdominal, intestinal and bladder problems, etc.”, not only in the sacrum but also up to the cervical vertebrae.
Traditional medicine has very complicated explanations for the causes which all ends in the standard sentence: “you have one leg shorter than the other, you will have to live with it. The only thing you can do is to use special build-up shoes or insoles”. Actually, this is wrong! Special built up shoes or insoles only stabilize the incorrect posture, which will later lead to even greater problems in the hip joint and /or in the lumbar area. The DORN METHOD exercises prove that, if everyone should try, both legs are actually the same length every day. The DORN METHOD shows everyone how to do it. Try it. Your body will thank you for it!
PELVIC – JOINT PROBLEM
In 90% of cases, uneven leg length indicates a dislocated hip joint. In other words: the hemispheric shaped head of the femur is no longer lying in the correct place in the pelvis and has in this way produced the longer leg length. The ingenious hip joint muscles and ligament structure of the hip joint maintain this situation. In a few cases the knee or ankle joint may also be out of place and also cause a slight lengthening of the leg.
The length of the leg is influenced by three joints: ankle joint, knee joint and hip joint. If the ankle or knee joint slip out, experience shows that the leg length of the leg can be increased by a maximum of one centimeter. However, experience also shows that this is a very rare occurrence. The hip joint can slip out of place by up to two or three centimeters, rarely more, and this occurs frequently. This cannot be seen using current x-ray methods. For a DORN METHOD practitioner this is not a problem, as no x-ray is needed for a reliable diagnosis.
The main reason for the “slipping out of the hip joint, from our observation, are the various sitting positions. Usually when we are sitting down we have the hip joint bent at 90 degrees. In this position the hip joint muscles relax and now they don’t need to stabilize the joint in the same way as when standing. Any movement that will induce a traction force onto the hip joint now, like it happens when we cross a leg over the other, will pull the femur bone out of the socket. This “out of place” position of the hip joint often stays because the ingenious structure of the hip joint muscles and rotary ligaments will most likely hold it there the very same moment we move the joint and the muscles are again contracting and holding the joint. The anatomy of the hip joint socket shows an opening of the socket to the front which is necessary because without we would not be able to sit without the bones of the femur and the acetabular touching each other, however this opening is at the same time our “weak point” because any traction force onto the hip joint may pull the femur out of place. Further any bending of the hip joint over 90 degrees with closed legs, like done in certain very common stretching exercises, e.g. bending downwards touching the toes with straight legs and the like, will lever the femur out of the acetabular because the bones are touching each other since our anatomy is not designed for these movements. This happens every time regardless of age and lead to a difference in leg length almost immediately.
Again, when the head of the hip joint is pulled out of the socket it does often does not move back into place, as the muscles are tensed when standing up and the joint is stabilized in this way. Even worse is sitting in a car or other vehicle for a long time. The sitting position brings the hip joint to a 90 degree position or more. The hip joint muscles then automatically relax. The more or less powerful vibrations of the vehicle mean that the head of the femur slips out of the hip socket millimeter by millimeter. It is then only a question of time until this becomes two or three centimeters. On standing up the muscles tighten and hold the slipped hip position as it is in a downward position and the head of the femur may actually bump into the acetabular roof and because the sideward force is missing it does not slip back into its natural position. And again this leads to an almost immediate difference in leg length. The basic problem seems to be he frequent “sitting position of the homo sapiens”. In the long evolutionary period of the human body there where no chairs, they are a modern development. The human being ran, stood, lay or crouched. Sitting was thus very rare.
The problem of ’displaced hip” can even occur among newborn or small children, usually because of the delivery process or rough delivery techniques and still common tests like the “collis test” where the baby is hold up on one leg to test some reflexes. This, unfortunately, is not noticed until later childhood. Hip joint therapies with special apparatus are used, which for the baby or small child are extremely unpleasant and barely achieve the objective.
I found this condition in basically everyone I checked no matter what age and since it is so common even in children there is no wonder why so many people suffer from back and spinal problems.
