As the year comes to a close, I’d like to share some of the things I learned as a health coach and as a woman in her 50s.
1. We’re not meant to do life alone. And asking for help doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It only means you’re human.
2. Illness has a way of testing your ego. One moment you’re in control, the next you’re reminded how vulnerable you are.
3. When my dad got sick, it became very clear to me that caring for someone you love is emotionally and physically demanding. I am grateful that my own health reserves are high. Otherwise, showing up fully can be challenging.
4. Money can always be earned again.Time with family and your health cannot. The memories we create with the people we love will always matter more than another goal or paycheck.
5. Putting off that health check out of fear doesn’t make the problem go away. It often makes it more expensive later - not only in terms of money but also in time, energy, peace of mind, and options.
6. Choose your tribe well. They will be your anchor. These past couple of months have been difficult. I am grateful to have my siblings and husband to lean on. So, surround yourself with those who uplift you, stretch you, and allow you to be fully yourself especially when life feels heavy.
For the coming year, I’m carrying forward more intention, more gratitude, and a clearer sense of what truly matters.
