Sight Saving Month in the Philippines is celebrated every August, as declared by Proclamation No. 40, signed by President Ramon F. Magsaysay on July 5, 1954. This annual observance aims to promote public awareness about the importance of eye health and prevention of blindness.

Key Objectives:

- Promote Eye Health: Raise awareness about the importance of protecting and taking good care of our eyes.

- Prevent Blindness: Encourage the public to be aware of available means of restoring lost eyesight and the value of organ donation.

- Support Vision 2020: Align with the global "Right to Sight" program, striving for healthy vision for every Filipino.

Activities and Celebrations:

- Nationwide Observance: Various organizations, including the Department of Health, National Committee for Sight Preservation, and Optometric Association of the Philippines, participate in promoting eye health.

- Public Education: Efforts focus on educating the public about eye health practices, disease prevention, and the importance of seeking medical care when needed.

- Community Outreach: Partner organizations implement innovative approaches to reach more people, including mobile apps and home screenings ¹ ² ³.
