The treatment of pain is among the well-established and best-researched indications of LLLT.

A team of researchers carried out a literature review on the “effects of low-level laser therapy on pain in patients with musculoskeletal disorders”. They reviewed eighteen studies with a total of 1462 patients and summarized that “LLLT appears to be an effective treatment modality to achieve pain relief in adult patients with musculoskeletal disorders.”

Patients reported pain at nine different anatomical sites: The back, elbow, foot, hand, knee, neck, perineum, shoulder, and wrist. The results showed “that the beneficial effects of LLLT on pain seem to be independent from the anatomical lesion site”.
