The Inaugural Infectious Disease Modelling Conference 2024

A new international conference that focuses on research and challenges within our field with a particular emphasis on the Global South. The region has been underrepresented in previous modelling conferences, and our aim is to bridge this opportunity gap by fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration through this event.

The conference is supported by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Global Health Institute (HKJC-GHI), a tripartite partnership between the University of Hong Kong, the University of Cambridge and the International Vaccine Institute. The event is jointly organized by HKJC-GHI and the Health Intervention and Technology Assessment Program (HITAP), Ministry of Public Health, Thailand. The conference will take place in Bangkok, Thailand, from 6th to 8th November 2024, at the Millennium Hilton Bangkok.

We have an exciting set of plenary speakers including:

· Anne Cori, Imperial College London

· Hannah Clapham, National University of Singapore

· Henrik Salje, University of Cambridge

· Jodie McVernon, Melbourne University

· Mark Jit, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine

· Marc Lipsitch, Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health

· Sheetal Silal, University of Cape Town

· Wanrudee Isaranuwatchai, HITAP & University of Toronto

And moderators and panellists including:

· Zulma Cucunubá, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana

· Thumbi Mwangi, University of Nairobi

· Wirichada Pan-ngum, Mahidol Oxford Research Institute

· Jomar Rabajante, University of the Philippines Los Baños

· Yot Teerawattananon, HITAP & National University of Singapore

In addition to abstracts submitted for oral and poster presentations, the conference is also accepting proposals for organised sessions. These will be thematically linked presentations that explore a methodology, disease area, or topic in our discipline. The portal to submit abstracts and organised sessions may be found at the conference webpage: https://idmconference.net/

In organising this conference, there are few things different from the norm.

First, the conference is committed to diversity. You will see that the plenary and panel speakers represent a broad representation of heritage and geographies. Second, the organizers purposefully involved early career researchers in the organisation of the conference, and there will be sessions dedicated to early career researchers in the program. Third, the conference is holding the inaugural conference in the Global South, and in a country for which it is relatively easy for researchers from all around the world to get a visa.

Please share details of the conference with your professional network. The organizers intend this to be the first conference in a series that will alternate with Epidemics.
