The Department of Health (DOH), represented by Undersecretary Nestor F. Santiago, together with Metro Manila Center for Health Development (MMCHD) Regional Director Rio L. Magpantay, yesterday met with the City Health Officers (CHOs) of each Local Government Units (LGUs) in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Discussions included updates on the number of Pertussis cases in the region, actions taken by the LGUs, assistance needed by every city in Metro Manila from the DOH, as well as the implementation of heightened surveillance and more aggressive routine immunization activities.
The visit of DOH officials to different regions aims to intensify the interventions on pertussis cases aligned with the Department's 8-point Action Agenda, particularly the "Pag-iwas sa sakit" and ensure that the country is taking the appropriate steps in combating pertussis dahil sa Bagong Pilipinas, Bawat Buhay Mahalaga.

𝐈𝐂𝐘𝐌𝐈: 𝐃𝐎𝐇 𝐉𝐎𝐈𝐍𝐒 𝐁𝐀𝐆𝐎𝐍𝐆 𝐏𝐈𝐋𝐈𝐏𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐒 𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐁𝐈𝐒𝐘𝐎 𝐅𝐀𝐈𝐑 𝐈𝐍 𝐁𝐔𝐓𝐔𝐀𝐍, 𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐆𝐀
The Department of Health (DOH), represented by Undersecretary Maria Francia Miciano-Laxamana and Caraga Center for Health Development (CHD) Regional Director Dr. Cesar C. Cassion, marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of the Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair at the Caraga State University in Butuan City on March 22, 2024.
Speaker Martin Romualdez was present at the event, as were other distinguished personalities such as 1st District Representative Jose "Joboy" Aquino II, Butuan City Mayor Ronnie Vicente Lagnada, and Vice Mayor Lawrence Fortun. Also in attendance were Local Health Support Division (LHSD) Chief, Dr. Sandria C. Yu, Dr. Dioharra L. Aparri, Dr. Agnes L. Cullantes, and Ms. Emmi Marie J. Cabahug, Head of the City DOH Office of Butuan.
In a gesture of goodwill, the DOH provided an extensive array of services, such as medical, family planning, nutrition, vaccination, health education, and minor surgeries. The Department also distributed 40 assistive devices, including wheelchairs, canes, walking aids, and blind sticks, totaling PhP 121,200.00, benefiting recipients from Butuan City and the municipalities of Agusan del Norte.
The Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair exemplifies a commendable initiative aimed at fostering a healthier society that addresses the needs of its constituents. Aligned with the DOH's 8-point Action Agenda, particularly the "Bawat Pilipino Ramdam ang Kalusugan," this endeavour champions equitable access to healthcare for all Filipinos, particularly those in underserved areas dahil sa Bagong Pilipinas, Bawat Buhay Mahalaga.

The Department of Health (DOH), represented by Undersecretary Maria Rosario Singh-Vergeire, joined the 2024 World Tuberculosis (TB) Day Celebration of The Medical City in Pasig City on March 25, 2024.
In her presentation, Undersecretary Vergeire discussed the current TB situation in the country and the direction that the DOH is undertaking to eliminate TB. The celebration aimed to encourage leadership, more effective and targeted investments, faster uptake of new recommendations, adoption of innovations, accelerated action, and multisectoral collaboration towards TB elimination.
This united campaign for Tuberculosis and Lung Health aligns with three of the DOH 8-Point Action Agenda: “Ligtas, dekalidad, at mapagkalingang serbisyo”; “Pag-iwas sa sakit”; and “Ginhawa ng isip at damdamin".
DOH extends its thanks to the private sector, particularly the partnership between the public and private stakeholders, in supporting its initiatives in delivering quality and accessible healthcare to Filipinos. Undersecretary Vergeire also urged the private sector to help the government in bolstering databases for TB, particularly in the submission of updated, reliable, and accurate data and reports to help ensure that the country is taking the appropriate steps in combating TB dahil sa Bagong Pilipinas, Bawat Buhay Mahalaga.

Today, the Department of Health (DOH), represented by Undersecretary Maria Rosario Singh-Vergeire and Central Luzon Regional Director Corazon Flores, led the opening of the Joni Villanueva General Hospital (JVGH) Malasakit Center. This Malasakit Center is the country’s 161st Malasakit Center and the 90th in Luzon.
Graced by Senator Emmanuel “Joel” Villanueva, Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, Bulacan Governor Daniel Fernando, Bulacan 5th District Ambrosio “Boy” Cruz, and Bocaue Mayor Eduardo Villanueva Jr., the event highlighted the country’s commitment to rationalizing health spending through a one-stop-shop facility, ensuring no co-payment for the indigent, and removing overlaps in the provision of medical and financial assistance across agencies.
By putting all concerned agencies such as the DOH, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), and Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PHIC) under one roof, critical programs of different government agencies, such as the Medical Assistance to Indigent Patients (MAIP) Program of the DOH, the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) Program of the DWSD, and the Medical Access Program of the PCSO, are brought closer to the people, harmonizing the financial risk mechanisms for the health sector in line with the DOH's 8-Point Action Agenda: "Bawat Pilipino Ramdam ang Kalusugan".

The Department of Health (DOH), represented by Undersecretary Maria Rosario Singh-Vergeire, attended the 74th Annual Convention of the Marikina Valley Medical Society (MVMS), a component society of the Philippine Medical Association (PMA), and discussed the significant roles of Specialists in the implementation of Universal Health Care (UHC).
Anchored on the theme “_Maging Marites, Alamin ang Latest_”, the convention centered on updates and innovations in the medical field. Underscoring the essential roles of Specialists in the realization of UHC, especially in the implementation of the Department’s 8-Point Action Agenda, Undersecretary Vergeire discussed several shifts that our country is currently undergoing in terms of healthcare framework.
Topics discussed include the DOH’s initiatives in improving finance mechanisms in healthcare, expanding access to primary care services and specialty care services, and the latest development in the health sector- the opening of Bagong Urgent Care and Ambulatory Services (BUCAS).
The DOH invited the members of the MVMS to take on greater challenges, and to help translate emerging evidence into practical, reliable policies, strategies, and interventions that safeguard the health and safety of the Filipino people.

In a significant move towards advancing healthcare services in the Visayas region, the Department of Health (DOH), through its Universal Health Care-Health Services Cluster (UHC-HSC) for Visayas Officer-in-Charge Undersecretary Gloria J. Balboa, initiated a collaborative effort with the provincial government of Leyte last March 6, 2024.
Also present during the event were Leyte Governor Jericho Petilla, Vice Governor Leonardo Javier, Zuellig Family Foundation (ZFF) President and Executive Director Austere Panadero, DOH Eastern Visayas Center for Health Development (CHD) Director Exuperia Sabalberino, Philhealth Senior Vice President Renato Limsiaco, Jr., Provincial Health Officer Dr. Ronald Flores, UP Manila School of Health Sciences Medicine Deptartment Chairman Meridith DP Labarda, members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, and heads of offices of the provincial local government units.
The dialogue, titled "Strategic Dialogue on UHC Implementation and Health Financing Implications for Enhanced Health Service Delivery," was a key component of the Provincial Leadership and Development Program. This program aims to empower local health leaders, facilitating accelerated UHC implementation through strategic capacity-building initiatives.
"UHC is really about ensuring health coverage for the poorest of the poor. What we are trying to achieve is giving them access to all levels of quality care, whether it is provided by a government or a private health care institution," emphasized Usec Balboa.
This collaborative effort echoes the Department's 8-Point Action Agenda: "Bawat Pilipino, ramdam ang kalusugan". This initiative seeks to mainstream and strengthen the country's primary health care, ensuring comprehensive access to health care services for every Filipino. The strategic dialogue in Leyte exemplifies the DOH's commitment to translating these principles into actionable steps for the betterment of the nation's health landscape, Dahil sa Bagong Pilipinas, Bawat Buhay Mahalaga.
