Both children and adults don’t struggle in isolation.
Their behavior, participation, and progress are shaped by the state of their nervous system.

Regulation and Attachment for Function in Medical Practice is a one-day, physician and clinician-focused course designed for those who work with individuals and families and want clearer answers when:

• progress plateaus despite therapy or medication
• behaviors escalate in school or community settings
• parents and loved ones continue to report overwhelm, outbursts, or shutdowns
• traditional behavior-based explanations fall short

This class bridges what is often missing from medical training — how regulation, attachment, sensory processing, and stress physiology directly affect cooperation, learning, treatment response, and functional outcomes.

This is clinical reasoning grounded in neuroscience and decades of practice.

As we start the year, we’re holding one hope close:

That we continue choosing understanding before reaction,
and relationship before correction.

At ConnectEdPH, this belief guides the learning spaces we create: where we explore behavior as communication and regulation as a nervous system process.

Wishing you a season of safety, connection, and rest.
We look forward to learning together in 2026.

After intense or stimulating days, some children (even adults!) may seem more clingy, irritable, or withdrawn.

This isn’t regression.
It’s their nervous system recovering.

Behavior often tells us when a child needs safety, rest, and connection—not correction.

These moments pass more smoothly when we understand regulation from the inside out.

Why do some children plateau in progress, or continue to struggle with outbursts and regulation, limiting participation in their daily life even when medical findings look “stable” or therapy has already started?

Because behavior is not the problem.
The nervous system is.

Regulation and Attachment for Function in Medical Practice is a one-day, high-yield training designed for physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, and hospital-based professionals who work with children and families across clinics, hospitals, schools, and community settings.

This course addresses the questions clinicians hear repeatedly from parents:
• “Why is the child in my care still struggling despite therapy?”
• “Why do behaviors worsen in school or with others?”
• “Why is progress inconsistent or stalled?”

Through an integrative lens of neurobiology, regulation, attachment, and sensory processing, this training helps clinicians understand what drives participation, cooperation, and functional change, and how to guide families with greater clarity and confidence.

This is not a therapy course.
This is clinical reasoning that strengthens medical decision-making and interdisciplinary care.

The holidays can be exciting—but also overwhelming—for sensitive nervous systems.

Regulation-friendly environments don’t need to be perfect.
They need to feel safe.

Quiet spaces.
Predictable routines.
Opportunities for movement.
And connection before correction.

These principles are at the heart of what we explore in Regulation Matters —understanding behavior through the nervous system, not just expectations.

Learning more helps us support children with greater calm, clarity, and compassion.

🩺 Regulation and Attachment for Function in Medical Practice

Doctor’s Class | Feb 13, 2026

Children don’t experience medical care through cognition alone — they experience it through their nervous systems.

Behaviour, cooperation, distress, and withdrawal are shaped by the interaction of neurobiology, sensory processing, attachment, and relational safety. Understanding this is essential for clinicians working with children.

This full-day training with Kim Barthel, OTR, C/NDT explores how regulation and attachment influence participation and function in medical and therapeutic settings. Drawing from neuroscience, trauma-aware care, and over 42 years of clinical experience, the course offers practical insight into why children respond the way they do — and how clinicians can support safety and cooperation more effectively.

Participants will gain understanding of:
• Regulation as a brain–body experience
• Co-regulation and attachment in medical care
• Autonomic cues of stress and safety
• Sensory processing and interoception
• Practical, relational strategies that reduce overwhelm and build trust

Holiday lights and sounds can be exciting—but for some nervous systems, they can also be overwhelming.

When behavior shifts, it’s often the body asking for safety.

At ConnectEdPH, we believe that understanding the nervous system changes how we support children—at home, in school, and in therapy.

That’s the foundation of Regulation Matters and Autism Matters:
moving beyond behavior management toward nervous system-informed care.

When families, therapists, and educators say “We’ve tried everything—but something still feels missing,” Kim listens differently.

Kim Barthel is an internationally respected Occupational Therapist with over 40 years of clinical experience, working across autism, trauma, sensory processing, attachment, and neurodevelopment. She has taught thousands of professionals worldwide: but just as importantly, she has spent decades sitting with families, walking alongside children and adolescents as they grow, change, struggle, and thrive.

In this course, Kim integrates:

-Current neuroscience and developmental research
-Real-world clinical reasoning (not rigid protocols)
-A lifespan perspective—from early childhood through adolescence and adulthood
-Practical insight for home, school, and therapy settings

✨ This Philippines offering is especially significant:
Kim will be debuting updated data and newly integrated insights—never before taught in the Philippines, reflecting how our understanding of autism continues to evolve beyond early childhood and beyond behavior-based models.

For parents, this course offers clarity, reassurance, and a deeper understanding of why your child responds the way they do and how to support them as they grow.

For professionals, Autism Matters sharpens clinical reasoning, helping you move beyond “what to do” toward how to think, adapt, and truly individualize support.

This is not an “early intervention only” course.
This is about understanding autistic individuals across the lifespan, and learning how regulation, movement, sensory processing, and relationship remain essential at every stage.

Regulation & Attachment for Function in Medical Practice

In medical practice, outcomes are not shaped by physiology alone.

An individual’s ability to cooperate, tolerate examinations, engage in care, and recover is deeply influenced by the state of their nervous system and the quality of relational safety present during medical encounters.

This full-day doctor’s class with Kim Barthel, an internationally recognized occupational therapist and educator with over four decades of clinical experience, bridges neuroscience, attachment theory, sensory processing, and trauma-informed care into practical insights for physicians working with children and families.

Rather than focusing on discipline or compliance, this course reframes common clinical challenges—distress, avoidance, emotional reactivity, shutdown, or non-cooperation—as adaptive nervous system responses.

Physicians will gain a deeper understanding of:

- how regulation develops across childhood and the lifespan and impacts function in medical settings
-why co-regulation is a critical clinical tool, not a “soft skill”
-how attachment, stress physiology, and sensory processing influence examinations, procedures, feeding, sleep, and follow-up care
-how to read autonomic cues that signal overwhelm, fear, or safety
-ways to support participation and trust without increasing distress

This course is designed for doctors who work with children and families and want to enhance clinical effectiveness, patient cooperation, and relational trust—while practicing with clarity, compassion, and confidence.
